While browsing the LIMITED TIME OFFERS on coscto.ca, I came across this memory foam mattress for under $300. Seems like a decent deal for a Queen size (King also), with FREE shipping. With costco, you can always try it and if you don't like it, just bring it back.

Get a great night’s sleep on SleepScience™ Elia 20.3 cm (8 in.) pure visco memory foam mattress. The Elia mattress offers a soft sleeping surface with medium to firm support. It contours the body and relieves pressure points with its top layer of visco memory foam, yet supports the body weight with its supportive base foam. It also features a 5.1 cm (2-in.) air barrier in the middle of the mattress. Made of an enlarged cellular material, this barrier allows the flow of air between the top and bottom layers of the mattress to neutralize the temperature of the mattress as it absorbs body heat. This ensures optimized comfort throughout your sleep experience.
This is the perfect introductory visco memory foam mattress for those who have never slept on memory foam. The Elia has been specifically configured to offer a soft sleeping surface sensation supported by therapeutic support layers.

I can't find the review specifically for this model. But Visco's matress topper seems to have pretty positive review on amazon:

Is there a 90 day return on mattresses though? I'd think it was something of a hygienic thing.
Also will I be noticeably hotter sleeping with this? Or is it better than a normal mattress. Heat is a big issue for me :/

Dammit... I couldn't resist and ordered the King mattress.. I can't wait to try it out.
The only thing is - I have an Ikea bed with slats, does anyone know if I need to buy some sort of box spring or something flat or can I put the foam mattress directly on top of the slats?

it might be endless, but i should know within 3 mos if i like it or not. but yeah, if it starts to fall apart in a year, i'll be bring it back.
i think you can put it right on your old boxspring, at least that's why i'm hoping.

You are not suppose to use a normal boxspring with a foam mattress. you could put a piece of plywood on top of a boxspring.

that's what we'll do, until we get a proper frame for it or i build a pine one. it looks like it just needs to sit on something hard/flat. i'm sure IKEA or JYSK has something cheap.
costco.com sells the frame for it, but the .ca site does not.
i'd like to get a hold of the matching foundation, seen here (http://www.sbsleepscience.com/product_details.php?p_id=37):

it's the same as the US price on costco.com, so it's a decent price as far as i can tell. i'm no mattress expert.
as far as the "limited time offer", i would say with costco, it's always better to "buy now and think about it later", that's what we did.
i don't want to find out this is a super steal, and say "i should have bought one".

if you have basic woodworking skills or know someone who does, you can build a nice solid frame, better built than anything from Ikea of JYSK (CRAP), for under $50 and all the lumber should be readily available from HD
if we like the mattress, i'll be making the queen one found here:

I read that actually...It's a one of a kind review. There are more reviews for the same product but different color/listing and overall it seems decent except for the mention of difficulty installing the moldings.
I can't build anything myself and can't seem to find anything better. I just want something very basic and cheap for my weekend home.

Hopefully someone else can get you the exact dimensions and weight but judging from the 2" mattress topper, I think the only way you are going to take this overseas with you is if you build a raft from it and sail it there.

No prob and they do squish pretty well so maybe from the factory they aren't that big.
Actually I found it on the US Costco site and they say it's 65 lbs so it's not nearly as bad as I thought (judging from the 2" topper, I was sure it would be well over 100lbs). If I remember correctly, our topper box was something like 2'x2'x4'. I suspect that it would probably cost too much to bring this anywhere by plane but hopefully someone else will be able to give you exact dimensions and you can confirm that.

i'm assuming you can put SLATS across your current bed frame, but if not, i'm just going to sick a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" ply that i have in the basement on the boxspring. i'll try it out and if i like the mattress, then worry about getting a proper setup for it. that should at least give me a good idea of how it's going to feel.

314.97 + 15.75 non member + 16.54 gst = $347.26 cdn
Costco.com is $399.99US (after $80 instant rebate) which is about $200cdn more than Costco.ca once you factor in the exchange rate.
Looking forward to a "cooler" memory foam, velour top is a bonus.

Yep, it seems good. I'll know better after a few nights though. It's hard to describe, but so far I like it because it feels..substantial
Update: few hours later and it still hasn't reached 8". It's at about 7" thick.
mine still 6.5"
let me know how long it took for your mattress to reach 8" when it reaches

Lol mine also came in today in brown box - and it seemed like that had the packing tape all over it. Are these originals or are these returns. I havent opened mine yet today - will do tomorrow. Can all who received their mattresses give their comments on the packing etc?
Since I have not opened mine as yet I can take a pic of it and post it - if someone can tell me how to post it here!!
yeah is like that, tape to hold the roll.
but the mattress is packet air tight
now if they are original or returns no one will know
since the company can recompress and pack it back
and will look like new

I was checking out this mattress and thinking of buying it, did anyone notice the density it states it is 3lb for the top layer. I was just doing some quick research and density looks like an important factor to consider when buying memory foam...

when you sit on the side or corners of the mattress , it goes down, so feels soft... but when you sleep on it, feels medium firm , not bad

from the above link
"THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DETAIL!!! Density is not a measure of firmness, but a measure of quality. ILD or IFD is the measure of firmness that you should be looking for with memory foam to determine how firm the bed is. Tempur material has an ILD of 14. Sensus has an ILD of 13 and so on. Most memory foams range in firmness from and ILD of 8 to an ILD of 20. 20 is extremely firm, while 8 is extremely plush. Look for a ILD range from 10 to 15 for the highest level of comfort. You would want a 10 ILD foam if you want plush and 14 ILD foam if you want firm.
"
No from Costco Specs
Features:
20.3 cm (8-in.) memory foam mattress fits the dimensions of your bed
Soft, washable, velour fabric mattress cover
Mattress core top layer: 7.6 cm (3-in.) of 1.7 kg (3-lb.) pure visco memory foam, 13 ILD
Second layer: 5.1 cm (2-in.) of 0.7 kg (1.5 lb.) polyurethane air barrier, 22 ILD
Third layer: 7.6 cm (3-in.) of 0.8 kg (1.8 lb.) high-density polyurethane base foam, 32 ILD

So that means that it would be a low quality at 3lb density, but it would be a good firmness?

This matress is rated at 3.0 lbs 3 inch top layer (the most important) It supposedly is the "visco" stuff, whatever that means.
Since the overall thickness is 8 inches, and the top layer is slightly lower density - its probably good for people who weigh under 180 pounds. You don't want to get too high a density foam (5 lbs+) if you are a small person - it will probably feel too firm and the extra support foam underneath will just be unecessary. Expensive high foam density and thickness beds are usually more practical for overweight people. Higher density tend to last longer too - but they are talking about the difference between 10 and 20 years normally so overall durability is subjective.
At least thats what I tend to read.
The air barrier is not an air cavity, there is no empty space in the middle of the mattress, that would just be silly. The air barrier is there to cool off the bed more than a standard foam mattress (the main complaint about foam seems to be heat retention)
I think this is a "cheaper" version of the ridonculously expensive 5.0 lbs sleepscience http://www.sbsleepscience.com/science_edge.php

ours just came this afternoon, and i thought it was only about 7" when i got home from work, but i just measured it, and it looks to be right on around 8".
i just cut some 3/4" ply and put it on the box spring, put the mattress on and all the sheets. it feels alot better than when i tried it with the plastic on the mattress on top of my current box/mattress
we'll try it out tonight and i'll give a feedback tomorrow after work.

I had a night's sleep on it and it was pretty decent. Actually, my back was hurting a bit...but that's probably just the side effect of moving the old mattress and lifting the new one into place.
But seriously, I think it is really good. Might take some getting used to. The heaviest parts of you kind of form a ditch in the mattress after remaining in the same spot for a while, so if you're used to moving around a lot, you feel like you're moving in and out of the original ditch you created (sort of). It's kind of training me to just stay in the same spot which is something I'd like to be able to do instead of interrupting my sleep all the time by moving. Basically, if you know your best position (probably the position you most often wake up in) then start there and try not to move so much. But don't get me wrong, even when you do move around, it's fine. I think I'll be keeping it.

Well, I slept on this mattress last night on the floor of my guest bedroom. I haven't put together the $99 Ikea bed I bought. The previous post about "ditch" feeling is what i felt as well. I felt like i was kinda trying to roll out of a ditch from switching from my back to my side. I think I was just getting use to the mattress though. It really wasn't that bad. It was comfortable and I have no aching back so all is well. I have a $1500 mattress for my bed and I feel enough of a difference that i won't be changing mattresses with this one. I felt the foam one to be not as firm as I'd like it. It's hard to tell just from one night of sleep though. For $300 I'm glad I bought this mattress as appose to a cheap regular spring mattress. All in all, this baby is staying.

too hard to tell after 1 night of sleep on it.

So what's the general consensus on this mattress? I am still debating whether or not I should get it without being able test it out before hand. I know I can return it easily through costco, but having to bring it in to a costco will be a huge hassle if I do have to return it. However, I need a mattress in the next month. Does anyone know if you can buy it now and postpone delivery for like 2-3 weeks?

All foam matresses are softer at the edges. Some people even *cough* fall out.
Costco.com (US) does also sell the more expensive sleepscience
http://southbayinternational.com/costco/costcocarina.html
Which has "The wedge" which will help to keep you from rolling out. Personally for this price - I'd say just go with the kingsize and have the extra foot and just stay away from the edges.

Arrived in Calgary. Thanks OP, I can already tell its a keeper.
Weight of box is marked at 109 pounds, and they sent one woman out to deliver it.
7 inches and tried it out, it is a little bit firmer than I was expecting - but I'm a smaller person too. Was not expecting firm from a 3.0 lb. Does not get as hot as other foams I've tried. Not much smell either, they must have de-skunked it before packing.
Only complaint - Velour covering is meh.

I've slept on it 5 times now. I've had 3 really good sleeps with minimal tossing and turning and I actually felt more rested and woke up slightly earlier than usual. However, I had 2 noticeably, memorably uncomfortable nights as well and I'm not really sure why but think it had to do with my position. It's a bit firm so sleeping when sleeping on my side shoulders can get a bit uncomfortable. I'm going to keep it and I'm fairly sure I'll get used to it. It's about 3 times better than the no-name spring mattress I had in the room before.
Bottom line, if it's between this or a cheap spring mattress, I'd definitely get this. Get it if you're going to use it yourself and especially get it if it's for a guest room that won't be used a lot- because it will never squeek or get noisy and I think no one will tell it from a new mattress even 10 years from now.

I notice the velour covering greatly reduces the effectiveness of the foam. Its pretty tight on mine, but loosened up considerably after a couple of nights. I can only imagine how tight it is on a Queen size.
If you want a softer bed - try taking off the covering entirely and just put on a loose cotton, microfibre or satin sheet that will move more and let you sink in more.
Sore shoulders usually means the pillow is too high, try a flatter pillow. I had to move to a very flat pillow, and drop the temperature another degree at night - and now its really starting to be enjoyable.
Might try no pillow at all tonight, or maybe just the pillowcase. If you sleep on your back, you should let the foam do the work, not the pillow.
Still on sale!

I have kept mine on a box-spring - should i get a plywood between the box-spring and mattress? Find it a bit firm - but otherwise comfortable. Has anyone returned theirs? How did you repack it? Still debating - keep or return.
