:arrowu: Good as it gets right now.
I don't need one yet, hoping for $99+free shipping in the next few months. That would be hot.
(NCIX Spinpoint sale+free shipping gift card is due)

As much as i'd love to take part in the free shipping hard drives.. I cringe at the fact that I have to wait a week.. with my hard drive in a box.. tossed around through shipping..
Not that its a bad deal.. But I try to avoid hard drive shipping!
Otherwise.. Good find OP!~

Do not want to spoil this for you .. but the drives you buy at the store are shipped as well. and believe me they are not packaged as well as the external drives. They still get tossed and bumped.
I bought my 250GB Seagate over a year ago and still works like a charm, where on the other hand a drive i bought at the store has died within a year.
Good find i say :)
FREE is good ...

When I tried to add the Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS 1TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136317) to my shopping cart it listed delivery as UPS Standard $0.00 but in the right-hand column charges me $1.24 for shipping and $17.06 for handling - It does say free shipping so not sure why the other charges.
Anyone else experiencing the same?
I do note the shipping disclaimer: * Free shipping not available in all areas. But hopefully Kingston wouldn't be one of those areas?

I think the $1.24 is the brokerage fee.

You are right & the $1.24 is explained below - thanks.
From their website:
Shipping includes the cost of shipping the product(s) and any additional fees, including the customs brokerage fee. To clear customs, your order is charged a $1.00 USD brokerage fee, which may be subject to Canadian Tax. If your purchase includes a "free shipping" promotion, you order will still be charged the $1.00 brokerage fee.
Handling explanation:
Handling fees include Canadian sales taxes paid at the border on your behalf, in accordance with the following table. Please refer to the included table and diagram below for the applicable tax rates for you province.
Tax is applied to the items in your order as well as the $1.00 USD customs brokerage fee.
Tax is not applied to the cost of shipping.

Depends who does it. NCIX has never failed me, I get all my drives from them. Plus, they're cheaper than this.

Beware that "free" shipping could cost you as much as $40 or $50:
newegg.ca wants $100 for a HITACHI Travelstar 7K320 320GB 2.5" SATA notebook drive.
newegg.com sells the same drive for US$60 (after $20 MIR)
zipzoomfly.com sells the same drive for US$50 (after $20 MIR)
and NCIX sells the same drive for CA$60 (after $20 MIR)

hmmm I'm tempted to get a samsung 1 tb to go with my 1 tb samsung in my dns-323, and create a raid 1, i got 300gb stuff on this that i do not want to lose...
I'm always worried about a drive failure...
i'm wondering if when i put the extra samsung if i will have the chance to convert to raid 1 witout losing my data on the drive already there....

But don't forget that the Canadian dollar isn't at par with the US dollar anymore. Current exchange rate has 60US being about 74.50Cdn. If you ignore the Mail in rebate, 80 US it about 99 Cdn. So you are still paying about the same up front + shipping at these other sellers. NCIX still has some pretty rotten shipping charges unless you live close to one of their places, so you really aren't losing 40-50 dollars like you say. Also many people don't want the hassle of dealing with mail in rebates

I said "beware" not a blanket "don't buy from newegg.ca." I'm simply cautioning people to do their homework.
For example, NCIX charged me $13 for shipping. (I missed out on the $10 gift card with free shipping deal.) But they only charged me 5% GST compared to the others who would have also charged me 8% PST. So I saved 8% of $80 on taxes, or about half of the shipping fee. Yes the MIR is a pain, but I've already been informed by e-mail that my rebate submission has been approved. Good point about exchange rate but that reminds me that the rebate is US$20 or about CA$25.
So here are the numbers (purchase price + shipping + taxes - rebate):
NCIX is $80 + $13 + $4 - $25 = $72.
newegg.ca is $100 + $0 + $13 - $0 = $113.
$113 - $72 = $41 [Added: Which still beats newegg.ca even if you don't apply the MIR.]
P.S. Nit pickers will note that postage to the US for the MIR is about $1 so the net savings is a mere $40 ;) That's worth the hassle of an MIR for me but your pain threshold may vary.
P.P.S. as for the dangers of shipping, if that's a concern then think about the jostling and bumping that will occur after you install the drive in a notebook computer, especially when the system is powered on, the platters are spinning at 7,200 rpm and the heads are rapidly moving back and forth a small fraction of a millimeter from the platters.

That's quite different. When the retail stores buy in bulk, the drives were packaged to be shipped out. For popular ones and those sold in volume, they were factory packed. And they are usually better protected; instead of being at the mercy of whoever packs your hard drive that day.

Could be, but bear in mind that many retail brick and mortar stores also receive small package courier shipments that arrive just as they do to your door.
Also the drive is not spinning when shipped and either damaged totally or fine. If it is not DOA then it should be just as fine as it would be if Scottie beamed it to you directly from the manufacturer.

Everytime I bought a HDD online they are always shipped with plenty of cushioning to minimize the bumping and tossing and I am sure that Newegg would be the same.

They had one I bought in the box in the anti-static bag with just a few of those air filled plastic bags to cushion it oh and it was a free shipping deal too AKA as slow as possible well over two weeks to arrive...

Ya. I don't see why they don't change it. Probably losing a lot of sales when people see that.
