i dont know if im doing it right but basically i inputted any numbers i have on my t4's, t5's in to ufile.. and my results it shows i owe 100 dollars. everytime i try to do it myself it doesnt seem right either i get too little or i owe. last year when i got my dad to do it through someone else i got 1000 back. but later on in the year they sent me a letter saying i owed them 1000. which is ********, i never asked for loan so why refund me when i have to give it back. anyway, this time around im trying it myself again, and shows results as i owe about 100. i made 30k last year, and i do get taxxed heavily each pay check. am i doing something wrong?

im a total dumb*** in this area so please no flaming, if you guys need answers because im missing something please just ask. what im asking is probably pretty vague to have someone answer, but really i have no clue. thanks in advanced

It's a little vague. Hard to really tell without knowing what you've already paid.

If you want a second opinion, just PM me the exact amounts in every column of your T4 and T5 (or any other t slips) along with the rent you paid (if your are in Ontario) and I will calculate the refund for you.

Since you have all T4/T5 etc obviously you are doing mistake entering the data.
You can use TaxTips and see what difference you get. Or use StudioTax and its wizard see the difference. Make sure your claims about RRSP, GST/Sales Tax credit, Tax paid on home/condo/rent paid etc.

Once you have added all that its simple. even after all this you do mistake then no software in the world wold help you. Best go to softrontax.

If you have muliple T4s, there could be good chance you may have to pay taxes. Since you have other person willing to help you, you should be okay.
Just PM your information. Get professional help if you do not know taxation even if you need to pay for him.

All else remaining the same if you only have 1 employer during the year and all you have is your T4 - you should not come out owing or getting a refund.

Following this logic, it is your T5 that is causing you to owe tax as there is no withholding on investment income earned in Canada.

Download Studio tax for free and re-input your figures to double check.

Why do you think you did something wrong? Is it just because you owe money? You don't always get a tax refund.

If you paid that 'someone else' and he's a professional accountant, etc. they can usually explain to you what happened (if you bring all the info).

Do most tax software allow free filing for total earnings under $25K?

I need to do my taxes from 2002 till now. I know, that is ridiculous. I'm a student so most of those years will be under 25K. Can I just download those and use them because it says

"# Print-only software can prepare unlimited tax returns
which have total income (line 150 of T1) less than $25,000.00. "

Does anyone have any recommendations on getting tax software for free for years 2002 through to 2008?
