I have a huge tax bill this year and am wondering if there's any way to use one of my airmiles credit cards (Amex or MC) to pay so I can reap some Airmiles to soothe my pain.

Could I use a credit card to buy a money order or maybe some kind of Amex cheque? Go to bank to buy money order with CC, use money order to pay tax at bank, then pay off the credit card. Is this possible?

no.

CRA doesn't condone paying off 1 debt by starting another, only direct deposit, cheque or even cash

Try re-reading what I asked above - I know I can't use the credit card directly to pay tax. But I can use a money order or a cheque to pay tax. So I'm trying to figure out if I can buy a money order or some kind of cheque with a credit card and then pay the credit card immediately (I have the cash to pay the tax) so I can get some airmiles from the cc.

Most credit card companies send out cheques once in awhile, and they are like a cash advance. Not sure if you get points for using them..

Yeah but you don't get any points, air miles, etc with the cheques.

You can't buy money orders with a credit card. They have caught on to this a long time ago.

Points are earned on purchases ONLY!

Cash advances / cheques are not treated as purchases!

What about quasi-cash transactions like buying chips at a casino with your CC and immediately cashing out?

LOL! Thanks, but that's for another thread - "How to maximize your CC rewards". I just want to soothe the pain of paying a bundle to the tax man which does not seem to be possible, but it was interesting to think about. Maybe if I was a gambler I would buy the chips and gamble my tax payment money and hope that I would come out ahead however, I'm too cheap to gamble :D
