DX sells a knock off version that works out to be less ($94 incl shipping) but I'd pay the extra for the legit one.

If you have the mobile browsing feature on your Rogers plan ($7 on PAYG) since this is just a glorified regular cellphone with wap access it'd be a much cheaper way to check e-mail or surf the web compared to the real Iphone and their plans.
The big downside to the Sciphones I've seen is that they use a pripority headphone jack however since they support bluetooth a2dp a pair of wireless headphones can fix that.
Remember this is not an actual Iphone nor is it comparable to the Iphone in any way. Basically it's a glorified cellphone with a big ass screen for viewing the internet via wap however it does have a basic MP3 player plus a 640x480 camera. It also plays videos in 3GP format at least (perhaps MP4 but I don't know the specs on that).

Meh...Firefox spellcheck wasn't giving me the correct way of spelling it so I figured what the hell...
Besides if anybody is ordering a Chinese Iphone I don't think mine will be the only spelling mistake involved with the process

It looks like they've ripped off the interface but, since the horsepower inside these things is that of an average cellphone, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't support video like the iphone (but it appears to support 3gp video) and def won't support Iphone apps etc
not bad! only no wifi!

Agreed. However I've found wifi devices useless since, unless you're in a dense area, there doesn't seem to be any free wifi ports around (at least around where I live).
However the unltd wap access has more than made up for that to me.

You're gonna have to also ask FS, BB, RCSS and quite a few other joints the same question because I've seen Nano clones at all those shops. RCSS even sells a Touch clone.

For Goodness sake, do not buy this SCIphone form Deal Xtreme. This "SCIphone" is not the "real" Sciphone, but a terrible clone of a clone. The real Sciphone is 3.2 inch screen and this one is only 3.0 inch, the quality of this "fake" is so bad that it only lasts for 2 weeks. They even intentionally spell the name wrong. Deal Xtreme sells two "Sciphone", the fake one costs $94 with crappy battery, crappy LCD, and short life span. The othe one is like Catch 22, with 50% of chance getting the "real" Sciphone. I would advise people to not buy Sciphone at that place, so many horror stories from customers getting fakes. (You can read that at DX) forum
Remeber the real Sciphone i68+ is only made by Bluelan and there is an official customer service and product forum, (lots of information included, please read them before you buy, or else you will regret it for getting a "fake")

"promote" ??? hardly, people buy all kinds of Sciphone regardless what I tell them. DX, Scophone.com, mysciphoneshop.com, even ebays sell all kind of sciphones. I personally own a Sciphone, and also like a lot about "ShanZhai" phones. I just believe if one decides to buy a Sciphone, at least buy from an original manufacture, rather get another copy that lasts 2 weeks and then complaining at DX or here. If you dont like "ShanZhai" phones, by all means buy from another big name manufactures. It is not an Iphone, so dont compares these two, or else you will be disappointed.
There are going to be lots of phones coming from China. Many of them offer great quality at reasonable prices. Products such as Sciphone, Ciphone are "ShanZhai" which offering similar outer appearance but have great functionalities. Ciphone C5, C6 offers Samsung 2443C 450MHz CPU, Multitouch functionalities, Wifi / 3G, and GPS. Well they also have lower resolution 320x240, and smaller 3.2 inch screen. Prices are reasonable around 1250RMB. Those "ShanZhai" are coming from small and middle size OEM factories that sometimes manufacture your Iphone, Blackberry, and HTC touch. Just by slapping on a different label, they become a world famous brand that sells 3 times their original prices. Like a computer, the only things that cost lots of money are LCD screem, motherboard, and cpus. Here are the price for Iphone components: a piece of MTK motherboard/ HuaWei K3 cost around 150 RMB, Intel Cpu is about 220 RMB (Samsung Cpu is even cheaper at around 150 RMB, and are used by many Motorola and Nokia brand), a good Multitouch screen from Taiwan costs the most at around 300 RMB (Sharp brand cost even more, but now most if not all are made in Taiwan). The typical total cost of Iphone plus labor comes to about 850 RMB per unit. Apple slaps a label as a reseller and the phone costs 500 USD (about 4500 RMB). Thats the amount of profits those phone companies are making.
Many of those "ShanZhai" starts as OEM manufacturers, and gradually making their own phone/ products without famous brand or label and making a profit for themselves. Thats how the ShanZhai culture starts in China and spreading like a wild fire there. The Sciphone i68+ are last generation roughly a year ago, here is the Ciphone C5 from another company: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tVCzO6CAv8) ShanZhai phones are mostly for domestic consumption, and are not shipped outside such as here. They have many problems too, such as short research and development time, and violating other peoples IP right. Thats why bigger manufactures such as MeiZu are doing something different. After spending 2 years doing software development, they comes out with brand new OS and a new phone MeiZu M8. It has a Multitouch screen, a faster processor and even a 480x780 high resolution screen. Yep, still even in China some people hate it, some people like it. This is not just China, in many Asian countries such as Korea, Japan, there are many high quality phones that we never even dream about. There are many restrictions that placed in North America so we will never see those things.
Anyway, I am being way off topics here. I am actually not a "new" member, just a year ago, I dont know what is "price match', and by reading posts here I learn to do price match and shop smart. So thats why I contribute in post now, not "promoting". But if new comers like me just getting bashes for positive contributing, I think I better remain invisible from now on.
Cheers and Open you eyes for the Brave New World:lol::lol::lol:

Don't believe it. They are all based on a local Chinese chip design and are not cloned Iphone i/f. I bought one knock-off months ago which randomly switched off. That was rather annoying otherwise it was functioning as advertised.
One can only be amazed the Chinese have built such an incredible local mobile market so fast. It's a matter of time, they will design something instead of knocking off designs.

I bought mine from Dealextreme.com which has been used by many here in RFD to good satisfaction. If I remember correctly I bought the CECT168. I believe it has been refined since and there are many better Iphone knock offs on top of WM 6.0 albeit they cost a lot more than $100.
Dealextreme.com is a H.K. outfit while the others are China sites. CECT is the largest supplier of Iphone knock-offs.
I wish to buy a Vertu KO but is somewhat nervous especially when I see Western Union on the webpage... If someone does order, let us know your experience. TIA.
Another site which can be recommended is: http://mp4nation.net/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=26&zenid=a0c321a5c3b06ed2f9e8482b80b00638 which has a limited choice of ChineCell but is out of Hong Kong and operated by an American expat.

Lol this is a funny thread because this isn't a deal.
There have been iPhone clones for less than $100 USD on dealxtreme for a long time. They are JUST NORMAL PHONES with a black exterior, thats it. These clones often do not even have the iPhone size screen, they are often smaller.
I have been looking for a couple of months because I am going to switch from Telus to a GSM pay as you go plan, and I spent a ton of times on dealxtreme checking out a couple of higher end phones.
I rejected ALL the iPhone clones when I was looking immediately. Partly because I had a requirement for WiFi and also because it is just embarrassing to explain to your friends that your phone doens't have WiFi, GPS, a camera, and runs windows mobile for some reason.
These phones are just a bad idea guys.
For the record, 'CLONE' is a bad descriptor of these items, they aren't actual clones, they are just phones which copied the exterior of the iPhone.
They don't copy the internals and features. To prove that point, the sciphone was even sold on Amazon.com. Its just a normal phone with a black exterior.
The closest is the M88 iPhone wannabe, it is the only one with WiFi, it sells for about $300 or less on Ebay.
Again, these things are silly guys, you're going to feel embarrassed. A big part of the iPhone's charm are the features, GPS, camera, app store, interface, you're just buying a cellphone with a black exterior.
Anyways, I decided to go all in, I'm getting an HTC Diamond or the new Diamond2 if the price is alright at launch next month.

Silly. Just get one of the Windows Mobile phones DX sells. You'll be far happier, as they are actually more standardized and can be customized with your own apps and such.
There's absolutely no reason to get an iPhone knockoff, unless it is actually running the iPhone OS (which, even then, I wouldn't want due to its crippled nature).

Imho it's failed as a deal because DX is putting out bootlegs of bootlegs (and even shipping the bootleg when people are paying more for the original).
There have been iPhone clones for less than $100 USD on dealxtreme for a long time.
Quadband? Not that I've seen.
They are JUST NORMAL PHONES with a black exterior, thats it.
Yes. I've stated that in the first post.
These clones often do not even have the iPhone size screen, they are often smaller.
The legit SciPhone has a 3.2 inch screen. For those who just want the $7 mobile browsing plan to surf the web or e-mail I'd say a 3.2 inch screen is much better than most brand name cheap phones that usually only have a 2.0 inch screen at best.
it is just embarrassing to explain to your friends that your phone doens't have WiFi, GPS, a camera, and runs windows mobile for some reason.
Embarassed? Imho someone has bigger problems if they need to feel good about their phone compared to their friends. The SciPhone does have a basic camera (as well as a MP3 player) but what if someone doesn't need Wifi or GPS?
Again, these things are silly guys, you're going to feel embarrassed.
Embarassed? Again - it's just a phone. By that logic people should feel embarassed over their "Curtis" GPS or Insignia HDTV - however there's plenty of threads around there for those and they've done fine.
Don't get me wrong - I agree this thread is a failure but because of the clone thing from DX and the lack of consensus of another legit store to order from - not the idea of ChiPhone's themselves

If you aren't trying to feel good about your phone then why would you even go for a iPhone clone? There are options around the same price with the same features, quadband, VGA camera, FM tuner, or there is even the tianxing where for an extra $4 you can have a 3.2 megapixel camera.
If you don't need GPS or WiFi there are comparable phones for the similar prices, but they don't resemble the iPhone, so why aren't those mentioned?

You're comparing apples to oranges. Those products aren't attempting to resemble anything, this product is, so how is your comaprison relevant?
NG
Mar 22nd, 2009, 03:49 PM
And I went further to prove it by pointing out it was even sold on Amazon.com, your point being?
Because the Amazon reference was irrelevant. Best Buy, Future Shop and even Superstore have all sold Nano knock offs or even Touch knock offs.
Anyone can open a shop on Amazon and sell something yet these are real store selling Ipod clones. Why? Because they're cheap and people like them (I'm sure because of the price and being a clone it makes it easy to get third party cases/skins for them).
The SciPhone on DX only has a 3.0 inch screen, so no, it is not the same size as the iPhone screen.
It's been established that DX is selling clones and I've agreed, since that's the case, this thread is a failure (however I'd still like to see a review of these clones to see how durable they are since a .2 inch less in screen size isn't much to view websites or check e-mail).
If you aren't trying to feel good about your phone then why would you even go for a iPhone clone?
1) Because it makes it easier to get after market cases for them since they are clones.
2) Because someone may not care about the casing - just the features, durability and price point. If it's cloned the Iphone's case so what?
3) Because the Iphone is a rectangular phone with most of it's front covered by a screen. It's not like there's anything special about that. By that logic the second company that released a flip phone copied the first.
When apple makes a hexagon shaped phone and China starts knocking them off your arguement will have, slightly, more merit.
There are options around the same price with the same features, quadband, VGA camera, FM tuner, or there is even the tianxing where for an extra $4 you can have a 3.2 megapixel camera.
When did I say you couldn't start threads on this site?
I welcome anyone and everyone to start threads and share their knowledge on Chinese cellphones. I will happily read them and order the best one of the bunch in relation to the price point.
If you don't need GPS or WiFi there are comparable phones for the similar prices, but they don't resemble the iPhone, so why aren't those mentioned?
Because you know about them (and their benefits) and didn't start a thread about them.
You're comparing apples to oranges. Those products aren't attempting to resemble anything, this product is, so how is your comaprison relevant?
So what if they are copying the aesthetics of the Iphone. Perhaps someone likes the look of it but just wants a phone with a screen larger than 2 inches.
For myself all I care about is:
1) Larger screen compared to candybar/flip phones
2) Java support for Opera Mini (in case I don't like the internal browser)
3) a 640x480 or greater camera.
4) Perhaps an FM radio but if I could yank that out (along with the MP3 player that'd surely be included) to seriously drop the price that'd catch my eye.
If they've put it in case that knocks off Apple, Nokia or whomever I couldn't care less as long as it was well built and the price was right.

It looks nice but there's no mention of Java support and the camera actually isn't 3.2 MP according to the user reviews.
The TV tuner is nice however it's a shame that it's 1) analog only and 2) no confirmation that it supports NTSC for North America.

That was my point, that these aren't actual clones but phones with similar exteriors, if you read my original post I state that quite clearly. If these infringed on apple's patents in some fashion they would not be sold at a retailer such as Amazon.com.
It's been established that DX is selling clones and I've agreed, since that's the case, this thread is a failure (however I'd still like to see a review of these clones to see how durable they are since a .2 inch less in screen size isn't much to view websites or check e-mail).
I didn't state that .2 inches makes the phone useless, but that it isn't up to par with what an iPhone gives, since people want to compare a 'clone' to an original, and the iPhone screen is 3.5 inches, not 3.2. A 0.5 inches difference in screen size is significant, having a 2.8 inch screen phone I can attest to that fact having had the opportunity to use an iPhone, its screen makes many of its features much more fun to use.
You keep using the example of viewing websites, and while a 0.5 inches reduction in screen size may not bother you immensely, it does detract from the experience, it also makes typing less comfortable, a fact I think most people with 2.8" screen sizes can understand.

1.With my point about the phones having different screen sizes, it stands to reason that they also have dimensions different from the iPhone, in fact, having seen some of them in person, I know that to be true, so you can't going to have an easier time going after accessories.
If anything it would be far more difficult.
I do know that the i68 and M88 can use iPhone cases, but many of the others are not compatible.
This being an i68+ may or may not be compatible, if it is a real sciphone, then likely it is compatible with iphone cases.
2.I didn't state that buying it because you LIKE THE LOOK is a bad thing, but that buying it to resemble the iPhone is, because it lacks so much compared to the iPhone.
3.You seem to be throwing in another ill thought out comparison. If you are debating that this phone is made to look like an iPhone, than you should prove that point.
You seem to throw in red herrings in an attempt to distract from what we were discussing, as you did in #3.
When did I say you couldn't start threads on this site?
I welcome anyone and everyone to start threads and share their knowledge on Chinese cellphones. I will happily read them and order the best one of the bunch in relation to the price point.
This forum is not for posting the price of whatever model you feel like, it is for deals, and those items are all regular price, including this iPhone knockoff. If you are looking for a phone and find a deal then great, post it for all to see, if you see something at regular price on a site many RFDers visit regularly, then it isn't a deal.
I don't know why you would want to start threads about regular priced items. If you simply want to engage in a discussion about low priced phones there is a forum for that.
Because you know about them (and their benefits) and didn't start a thread about them.
See above.
So you're going to ignore that your original comparison was completely incorrect?
Now you're simply responding to my point with something completely different.
You stated that it was the same as buying the Curtis GPS, or an Insignia TV, and it is quite clearly not.
Now you've gone off on a tangent stating what your personal requirements are, which are incidentally everything that the SciPhone has, well thats nice.
Well if the SciPhone fulfills EVERY requirement you have in a phone, then thats great, clearly you should get one, being under no illusions that this is comparable to a real iPhone.
You should note that java may or may not work depending on the knockoff at hand, real sciphones support java, while many other knockoffs do not.
My original post stated why for most people who would love to own an iPhone but felt the price was prohibitive, that this was not a real clone, but a knockoff, which wouldn't enable one to do the same things. Many could get a used iPhone on ebay for a reasonable price.

Also I assume this is the phone you're referring to on DX:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15036
It looks nice but there's no mention of Java support and the camera actually isn't 3.2 MP according to the user reviews.
The TV tuner is nice however it's a shame that it's 1) analog only and 2) no confirmation that it supports NTSC for North America.
DX ships different variations as soon as they come in, if you notice the sciphone forums also state that they are at least 2 versions in shipment.
If the newer version has a 3.2 megapixel camera, that is what the site will state.
This is also true with their HTC knockoff, which used to come with a shared IMEI, and now the page states unique IMEI, because all the new ones being shipped have a unique IMEI.

I stopped reading your post half way through since it seems you're not interested in discourse but defending your position with no flexibility. (For example as I said I noted in the first post that this is basically a glorified cellphone with a large screen)
If you don't like that there are phones that resemble the Iphone but that's your problem since they're here and not going away and not everybody buys Chipods/Chiphones because they want to pretend they have an actual Ipod.
I owned a Chipod before the actual Nano supported video - sure it was only good for cartoons because of the low fps but it at least did that - and had an FM radio to boot (something the real Ipods still don't have). Honestly I don't hate the Ipod and if someone wants to own one that's fine by me - I've just decided they're not for me for various reasons. I've also found that with a bit of streching I've never had a problem fitting a Chipod in a case or skin etc.
Sometimes a deal isn't about a product being "on sale" - just that it has the possibility of being a cheaper alternative that does the same or similar thing that people need for a lower price.
At this point if you continue to decry products that copy the shape and look of the Iphone I'll be forced to add you to my ignore list since this has become pedantic.
However I sincerely hope I don't have to do that since it appears you do have knowledge of the Chinese cellphone market and I would certainly welcome reading any threads you may start in the future for Chiphones that offer good value for dollar :)

Back on topic is there any consensus on a legitimate store that sells either the SciPhone or another similar phone at a similar prices that delivers the same features?
I gotta say I'm very disappointed to learn that DX is not only selling clones by just making the distinction of capitalizing the first few letters but also selling knockoffs to customers who pay to order the more expensive "real" alternative.
Perhaps DX has jumped the shark for anything aside from cables and small adapters.

There is little point in debating if you keep attempting to draw the debate offtopic, from what I said about this not being a real clone, to you stating exactly what you want in a phone.
I stated an opinion, that this phone was of little use if you were buying to because you thought it was similar to an iPhone, you took offense to that and began arguing that my opinion was elitism, and on and on it went.
I'm not sure what the point of coming to a forum is if you simply attack people because you don't like their opinion, I believe that my opinion was valid as was your opinion as you stated in your first post in the thread.
Attacking me simply because I don't like the deal doesn't seem like a valid reason, and it rather defeats the purpose of having a forum to discuss these deals.
Anyways, I'll make this my last post since its gotten too offtopic in the last few.
A large number of Java applications fail to run on the i68+, apparently it lacks the memory to execute them. So if you buy this thinking you're going to run something specific, you're best off checking the forums that were mentioned here earlier before buying.
It was mentioned here earlier but it bears repeating, as DX is saying that this phone has 3.0" screen, this is almost certainly a fake sciphone. The real one is listed further down the page at $123.
If you want one at least get an original so you can make use of sciphone's support forums which are relatively active.

I never said it was similar to the Iphone. I refer you to my first post in this thread:
If you have the mobile browsing feature on your Rogers plan ($7 on PAYG) since this is just a glorified regular cellphone with wap access it'd be a much cheaper way to check e-mail or surf the web compared to the real Iphone and their plans.
I took offense to you, yet again, misrepresenting my statements. I still take offense.

Sorry RFD, I know I said last post was it but I can't let this one go without a reply, since NG who claimed he was going to stop seems to want to continue.
My first post was not directed at you or anybody in particular, it was directed to anybody who might think that this was a similar machine to the iPhone. That much is apparent as I am addressing the entire thread, or all of RFD or anybody who reads the post.
I never quoted you in my first post, I never misrepresented anything you said, you are the one who keeps throwing things offtopic by claiming I'm an elitist (Lol, are we having an election here?) etc. etc. and then claiming the phone was perfect for your needs, again bringing up things that are irrelevant. I never wanted a personal conversation with you, I could care less what you personally want in a phone, my post was directed towards all of RFD.
This is a forum and when you posted here you opened your deal up to discussion, that is what a forum is for. People are allowed to have opinions, getting offended because somebody doesn't like your deal and then attacking them is just childish.
This exchange has been silly, if you really think my first post was directed at you in particular, or you are upset because I didn't think your post was a great deal then lets deal with this in private messages. I await your reply in my PM box.

Don't know what "Sheng Chum" is but Deal Extreme does sell it but it's a knock off. They do sell the real version but, even with free shipping, it'd be more than what's posted here and people are saying you'll still have a 50/50 shot of getting the knock off.
Afaik DX is the only site members here deal with who usually have a reputation for being legitimate...
However now that they're selling bootlegs but just capping the first few letters of the name to show a difference *and* selling the bootleg even to people who paid more because they thought they were buying the real version I'm not sure if even that's true anymore... :(

A friend gave me a SciPhone in January. I'm impressed by the quality of the phone. It's feature packed and the screen quality is very good. Touchscreen takes a bit getting used to especially if you have fat fingers but the stylus works great.
There's a game on it called SushiTime which is a Bejeweled clone and it's addictive.
The best part of the phone though is the *dual* SIM card slots. It's great for travelling to the U.S., for example. I use a U.S. pre-paid SIM in one slot and my Rogers SIM in the other slot. I can choose my U.S. SIM to use for outgoing calls to eliminate roaming charges while still being able to receive calls on Rogers.
I used it for a week in the U.S. but don't anticipate travelling with it anytime soon so I will likely sell it. If anyone is interested, I will sell for CDN$100. It's in mint shape.
