Anyone know whats going on with the new McDonalds at McCowan and Finch? It says McCafe on it.. is it a McDonalds or a McCafe, or a combo? When's it going to open?

It's more of a Starbucks-style cafe:

From an article..
"McCafe will serve "high-end cakes and pastries, gourmet coffee ... premium teas ... Viva Tiramisu [and] New York Style Cheesecake. ... Food and beverages will be served in fine china along with stainless steel flat ware. The warm decor consists of leather couches, chairs and bistro style tables with accents of mahogany, granite, lace curtains and French vintage posters."

That's just weird. Having it at that location you'll just get nothing but troubles. Especially with such a high highschool population minutes away.

They are already all over London, UK.. Starbucks has a better enviroment, but i found the drinks are roughly half the price, and actually taste just as good if not better.

this place will be great for serving Cafe La Bullets. Nice area, whomever had the idea of opening it at this location should be shot.

They had a McCafe opened up here in the West at the Head Office in Burnaby. Cheaper "Starbucks" style coffee's, not bad.

Will be good for those parents that want to bring their kids to McD's, but still want a nice coffee and biscotti or other.

Does it mean it can earn more money? High School kids probably will stay in the McDonald which is connected to the mall anyway. That McCafe is in its own building seperated from the mall.

or maybe ppl will if it's like Tim Horton's.

The mall location has closed. It is all outside now.....

I was a student at ACCI (now uni). You'll be surprised of all the trouble and fights caused by students, so now that they are separate the troubles will just follow.

I won't be surprised if it turns into the next local gang hangout at night. I remember staying a bit late and I was waiting for a friend to pick me up near McD and was approached by a man offering me crack :P

i wonder if it's still the property of woodside... thus being patrolled by security... if not good luck Ronald....

I went to ACCI too... i know how bad it was... even though i started some of it... :D

But all in all... i haven't been there yet... but the new drive through is great... now when i need food at 4am... it's only 5min away... no more travelling 6min to another 24hr mcdonalds...

I guess Campbell is very different from when I was there.. late 80's. Ya.. I'm grandpa. :P

'I' was one of the bad punks at that time. The stuff these kids are doing nowadays is pretty sad.. I was just reading the Toronto Star. These punks were mugging Asian Seniors at Woodside? How pathetic is that. It's as stupid as robbing a Dollarama IMO.

hey..im acutally a student in albert campbell rite now...(last year..thank god)..yea..the violence around the school is getting pretty bad..but a lot of it is not really caused by the students..its actually just the area around it..
but yea.mcCafe is pretty good.been there twice..starbucks coffee with a bit cheaper prices..lets say 2.99 for a medium mocha cappucino...2.49 for a medium latte..thats all i remember..and the mcdonalds inside woodside is now shutdown...its together with the McCafe
and speaking of the 2 lane drive thru..i have a stupid story from that..so one day i went to the drive thru...theres a sign saying plz go to the shortest lane or something.so i saw a car in the left lane.so i went to the right one...in the meantime anotehr car pulled up in the left one....the first car got their order and moved up to the pickup window...so the other car moved up.and got to order before me!.i was still waiting..so i got pissed..backed my car outta the right lane.and went to the left lane...and i was waiting there.THEN a van pulled up in the right lane(the lane i used to be in)..and got to order before me..i got pissed!.lol..and the funny thing is..u can see waht other ppl are ordering from the screen..its sucha stupid idea to hvae 2 drive thru lanes..

I think the mcD's following Tim Horton strategy by doing the Burger & Coffee outlet together out of the Malls...in the Parking lot.

Lots of other Malls are doing the same... making Stand alone eateries out of the malls, away, in the parking lots, where NOBODY wud like to park (everyone wants parking closest to the mall door).
Smart move IMO

So i gave this new McCafe a visit the other night... ahah

How should I say this... the employees are very unorganized and confused. The drive through is a mess. Some drive-thru customers had to park their cars and come in to get the orders instead. I also saw a manager running around the place trying to deliver a meal that was ordered through the window.

The wait time is long compared to their old location, which pissed me off the most.

The chocolate cakes on the McCafe side did look tempting. Which I will try on my next visit.

They didn't really use the space well enough. There were a lot of empty floor, which belongs to the McDonald side. The bright lighting (white light)... made the dirt on the floor show up 3x worse.

The McCafe side's lighting was a bit darker, but cramped if you ask me. Most of the seatings were taken up by normal McDonald users.

went there on a weekend... holy crapped... managers please do not use newbies on a busy weekend.

That chick is somewhat used about 5 mins to make out of my latte. Damn it... what a stupid management....

On the other side, I am ok with the lighting in the McCafe area but I wonder if we can smoke outside the patio section?

I dont know why u people are bashing Acci...I went there (finished last year) and I didnt find it too bad...As long as you didnt cause trouble or talk sh*t. Yes, there were fights and random acts of violence every now and then, but compared to other schools in bad areas Acci was very peaceful.

i dont think you have to pay for internet... its probably one of those pilot projects... but it looks nice...

i always had a think for upstairs eating areas... i believe this was the store that moved from 89 yonge st., it had an upstairs too right across the street from a fitness club so you would be eating your bigmac and the people on tredmills would be staring at you, looking like theyre going to kill you as you stick fry after fry in your mouth... it was great...

They practically have them at every McD in HK now. Still a good idea to bring them here.
