Greetings and salutations,

The fiance and I are, for our honeymoon, going to Tahiti/Moorea/Bora Bora for 9 nights in late Nov/early Dec (2 nights in Tahiti, 3 in Moorea, 4 in Bora Bora - preceded by 2 nights in Los Angeles).

We are planning on doing some activities like swimming with dolphins, "shark feeding," snorkeling, perhaps a "for two" sunset cruise/dinner thing, some hiking. Other than that, be romantic and veg on the ridiculously gorgeous beaches.

I have two questions on all of this:

1) Anyone who has spent any time in this part of the world have any recommendations on stuff to do, things to try, etc, etc? Also, anything that we should avoid doing?

and

2) I dont have a family doctor but the last time I was at a clinic for my physical, I asked if there were any special vaccinations that need to be taken before heading down to the South Pacific. They werent sure but said they didnt think so as there generally arent reports of any major maladies from that part of the world. Is this correct? Or are there any specific vaccinations that we should look into?

As usual, thanks a ton in advance.

I did some light research on this and quickly found out that Tahiti and its associated isalnds are astronomically overpriced. From my research I found that in Tahiti there isn't much to do since that is the more industrialized island compared to the rest. In Moorea there is a lot more to do like the 4X4 Tour, touring of the juice plant i think it was, there's shark feeding excursions as well but I hear thats better in Bora Bora. I remember in Bora Bora there is supposed to be a really nice restaurant where the celebs go and there is like only 6-8 tables in the whole restaurant.

I think the biggest thing is which resort you stay at...where are you planning on staying?

I've been scuba diving in Bora-bora, and swimming with stingrays in Moorea. Both were great and highly recommended. Don't remember the companies I went with. If you don't have scuba cert, you may look into getting it before you go, since you'll be able to do more interesting dives.

I didn't get any special vaccinations before I went, and I didn't hear anything about needing them. No one in my party got sick.

Hope you have an awesome honeymoon!

Rapsrealm: Ohhh yeah .. its a tad bit pricey. Almost 12K for the 11 days, 95% of which is the 9 in Tahiti. Insane. But, it has been a dream for both of us (individually before we even met) for years so at the end of the day, its just money. How often to people get to do something they dream about? For us, it was an easy decision. Im sure afterwards though .. we might question our sanity as we are paying it off :P

We are staying at The Radisson in Tahiti, The Sofitel in Moorea, and the Pearl Resort in Bora Bora.

Screwdriver: I have actually been considering doing some scuba diving lessons and getting certified. Good call. About the vaccinations .. excellent. Thank you very much.

Fiji is a much better deal if you like the Pacific.

And the Cook Islands are even better for price. But I prefer Fiji over the Cooks....:D

We hadnt even looked at Fiji or Cooks Islands ... only because, again, I just had this vision/dream of going to Bora Bora. Not sure why really. Hopefully it will meet both of our expectations and we will be satisfied. The money will hurt but meh, we are having a honeymoon registry so hopefully, we can offset a small portion of that cost.

If Fiji and Cooks are that much cheaper, perhaps in the future we might be able to visit.

The next trip on the agenda is to go to Russia next fall.
