Any suggestions for day trips or must dos?
We are staying at a 5 star resort for a week of relaxation with our children near Playa del Carmen.
Never been so looking for any suggestions.

You have to do a day trip to one of the cenotes (fresh water springs) for some snorkelling.
Make sure you have bio-degradable sun screen

There is so much to see and do, just look for some excursions that interest you,
You can go to Tulum, Coba, Chichen-itza,Xcaret, Xelha. just to give you a few ideas. Look these up on the net.

I highly recommend Eddie and Bonnie from Edventure Tours. They run private tours of great local places from diving in cenotes to swimming in a amazing lagoon FULL of fish to visiting the ruins at Tulum and swimming with sea turtles.
They will customize your day as it a private tour. They are great people and there prices are quite reasonable.
