I always buy Travel Insurance from PC Insurance online. It offers the best coverage & their rates are the lowest.
You can also buy it over the phone 1-800-826-0339

Travel insurance is the biggest rip-off if you buy it for one trip.
You can generally get an annual policy cheaper than a single trip one. This would cover you for any trip you take over the course of a year.
I find the best ones are those which attach to credit cards, not the included coverage but one that you can buy which is supplemental. Not all are good. The one I get would cost you $100 for the year and includes full medical. There are three options, as cheap as $30 or $70 if you just want trip cancellation/interruption, etc.
The only qualification for the coverage aside from the annual fee is that you are required to pay for either a part or all of the trip on that credit card.

Their rates may be the lowest for a single trip. A one week trip to Mexico through PC would cost $75 for three people for trip cancellation and $99 for comprehensive.
I get family coverage on an annual basis for less on the first and it would be the same for the second although on my plan, I would be covered for all trips in the year. The PC insurance would be even more expensive if you have more tha three family members.

As for RBC Travel insurance, their multi-trip plan is more beneficial when you travel at least twice a year.
For example, you buy 2 single trip insurance 2 times during a year and that amount already break even on 1 multi-trip annual plan. Therefore, if you plan on going away for at least 2-3 times a year. Get Mutli-Trip.

This is interesting. Can you give more details of the credit card / issuing bank etc.? Thanks in advance!

lol, well I am the founder of the company... We have been in business since early 2007. We are contracted with Manulife, etfs, TIC, Travel Underwriters, Canam... and AIG Travel Guard but we have removed AIG from system indefinitely for obvious reasons.
PC financial uses AIG Travel Guard as do the plans bought in most Canadian airports. So buyer beware.
We are not contracted with RBC as they only offer contracts to travel agents who sign exclusive distribution contracts. Our research shows RBC to have relatively high rates... probably because they rarely need to compete based on rates.
We do about 3500 policies a year and believe we offer better consumer tools than kanetix for comparative shopping of travel insurance rates. Our reports are far from perfect but we continue to improve as best we can.
In short, for healthy non-seniors most medical insurance plans are pretty much the same. All-inclusive packages will vary from company to company. Always read through the policies first.

Prices seem a little outrageous. I put in for a quote on a one week trip for two adults and one child. Quote came in at $267! Multi-trip would be $429. This is for a lousy $1,500 of coverage per person for trip cancellation. The trip cancellation doesn't even include coverage for baggage. A quote for the comprehensive with the same information comes in at $231 (maybe different companies?).

Check out the following travel protection:
http://www3.bmo.com/mosaik/perform_features_travel_protection?&PUID=430
The best coverage is $60/year with unlimited trips. It would be a deal for even one trip.
Medical is as follows:
http://www3.bmo.com/mosaik/perform_features_medical_protection?&PUID=928
Price is $49 or $89. Coverage is exactly the same except the cheaper one covers only for trips up to 17 days which would be enough for most people.
Total cost = $109. Again, this is an annual fee and NOT for just one trip and covers you AND your family.
