I recently had to get a picture taken for a visa application. Thought about going to the usual store and get your picture taken for $10+. Being a rfd, did a little research this time around and found out that you can do it on the cheap. I thought i might share this with everyone and save money where you can. This is in regard to visas and not passport photos as passport photos require the name of the photographer on the back.

1) Take the pictures yourself with any digital camera. Preferably with a white background(wall etc...). Stand about 1 feet in front of the wall to prevent any wall shadows.

2) Check the visa picture size requirements for the country you're going to (google).

3) Use the website http://www.epassportphoto.com/ (i found this web page using google so don't know how reputable it is?) to upload your photo and they will resize it to whatever you the set it (Mine was 5x7cm - Canada). Choose the download option at the end cause it's free and then save the image to a usb storage device.

4) Go to Walmart or wherever there's a instant print option and print out the saved image.

So there you have it. I did mine and the total costs was $0.31. Anyways, this is just a quick writeup so for more google is your friend.

Don't you require the back of the pictures to be stamped by the place that took the picture as well as a reputable person (ie. pharmacist, engineer, police man etc) that has known you for two years?

I'm not that up to speed on it, but last time I went to walmart (last year) the photo was stamped and an additional sigatory was required, how would you get that stamp if you print it yourself?

Visa pictures don't require a stamp. OP specifically said this is not applicable for passport pictures.
