My laptop which sync'd w/ my Ipod touch just died.
I recently bought a new laptop and want to know the best way to sync my Ipod to my new computer so that all of my songs, my notes, my apps, my games scores etc are all intact when i sync it to my new computer.

I was told that copying the itunes folder (XP: Start > My Documents > My Music > iTunes) to my new computer and taking all of my mp3's and transferring them to my computer would do the trick? is this the best method? will i run into any problems this way?

Thanks

Should work provided that the library data hasn't been corrupted somehow. After moving the data from the backup to the new system, load iTunes while holding SHIFT on your keyboard and it'll prompt you to select your old iTunes library from wherever you moved it.

same thing happend to me and this is what I did and it worked for me. I did not copy any folders or anything...I used a software to save all my songs. It basically ran an analysis on my ipod and found all the songs on there and then saved them on my computer. I forgot what the software was but i'll look for it and let you know

If you want to retrieve all ur apps and saved content on your ipod that is not music...do this

The itunes on your new laptop, make sure you click "Authorize this computer" or "authorize Account" under the Advanced tab.
Then plug in your ipod
then click File>Transfer purchases from iPod.

I think this should work but if you really want to be sure, just use a software which can take out all the songs from ur ipod and save them on your computer.

I used IpodCopy. Another good software is also IpodAccess.

Im not gonna tell you where you can get it from since its pretty obvious.

Small correction:
my new computer isn't exactly new. it's just my desktop.
problem is, my desktop already has an itunes folder that's sync'd with my iphone that has all it's own songs/apps/etc.

Is there a way i can have 2x itunes folders on one computer so that i can sync my itouch and it will have all it's old songs/apps etc (that were on the laptop) and still sync my iphone so that it has all it's on stuff too.

edit 1:
What happens if i just create a seperate windows profile for my itouch? Where then would i put the Itunes folder from my laptop?

If you want to back up all the music on the ipod just to be safe, I recommend sharepod (freeware) allows you to copy the ipod to the pc. Did this for my Sister in law, since they bought an ipod at a city auction and she wanted the music off of it.

The songs, i can always just re-upload to the ipod/itouch. it's the actual data (apps/notes/game scores/pics/webpage favourites) that i'm concerned about.

Ok. What i've done is i've made a new windows user profile.
I downloaded sharepod to transfer all the songs from my Itouch to my PC. I transferred my apps via plugging in my Ipod and let Itunes "transfer purchases"

On my other windows profile is my sync'd Iphone. I'll keep updated if doing anything i just did messes up my iphone syncing at all.

Right now, it's just transferring all the songs over to my PC. I'll keep updated as to if it fully clones my itouch over so that it has all the saved scores, notes, playlists, everything

update: FIXED! Basically 1) sharepod xfer all songs to pc.
2) use itunes to transfer purchases
3)under "devices" select itouch and choose to auto sync music/apps (and whatever else you need) and exit itunes. It asked me if i wanted to save settings as settings has changed. Click ok and itunes will exit.
4) restart Itunes and choose "erase and sync" and that's it
All i have to do is when i want to update my itouch, i switch to that windows profile and itunes sync it. When i want to use my iphone, i logon to that profile, and sync it. Best part, the transfer totally saved all my Itouch contacts, notes, scores etc. Thanks to all the ppl that replied
