I'm having a problem with my LCD monitor flickering, and having a subtle crisscross pattern that I can only sometimes see. I resolved the flickering by increasing my monitor's brightness to 100%, but that was hard on the eyes. The solution was to use the nVidia control panel to reduce brightness via software.

However, I can still see the crisscross pattern... it's very fine and subtle. It's like I just notice it off to the side of wherever my eyes are focused, and it's not isolated to any particular area. I'm thinking that's probably related to what was causing the flickering... which is probably that my monitor is dying. I've reseated the DVI and power cables to no effect. Any suggestions? I bought in 2005, but I expected it to last longer.

How about hooking the monitor up to another PC, if possible? Just to verify it's the monitor.

Yes please try this. If it's the same on another computer take a picture so we can see as well. Other than that if you're still under warranty I would say get it repaired/exchanged.

Okay, I was able to test the monitor on another computer (different power cord, different wall outlet, same DVI cable), and I found no difference. The problem is definitely either the monitor or the DVI cable itself.

I expected to be able to find more information on what's happening, but oddly, I haven't found much of anything talking about this sort of flickering, or the crisscross pattern. Unfortunately, the monitor is out of warranty. Is it typical to have LCD monitors fail after less than 4 years?
