I'm looking for a cheap home theatre receiver with three HDMI ports. I also need to make sure the HDMI passes the audio through to my speakers. I noticed most of the budget receivers that I've looked at do not do this. That is, have to connect a separate optical cable for the sound.

Does anyone know of a sub-$300 receiver with audio supported through the HDMI? How do you refer to this feature anyways?

There's another active thread about this topic at the moment, I suggest you look into that.

What I would recommend is either the Pioneer VSX-918 or the Yamaha 6150. They are both on sale for a good price at futureshop, and both are great receivers for the price. I've had a Yamaha and currently own a Pioneer 1018, and liked both. I think I would go with the Pioneer, but they are both good receivers, plus the Yamaha is a fair bit cheaper.

Go down to Bay Bloor radio and ask them what receivers they have on clearance for your price range. Usually they can hook you up with something nice for cheap. Clearance stuff is just as good and 1/3 the price!

Both those receivers have the problem with the HDMI not passing audio through to the speakers. You need a separate digital audio cable. I need to find something that will send both audio and video through the HDMI.

Good suggestion on Bay Bloor. I'll drop by next week.
