View Full Version : Games Resident Evil 5 $59.99 at Zellers, FarCry2 29.99, some other decent deals
Jagmit

Resident Evil 5 is listed at $59.99 (coming soon). Also they have Halo Wars for $59.99. EB, FS, and BB are all selling these for $69.99. Maybe EB and other stores will lower the price upon release like they did with SFIV. There are also other decent deals, like Far Cry 2 for 29.99.

Still, if Zellers of all people can sell at that price, why don't other retailers like BS, FS, and EB set the same price?

it's Zellers. they have the weirdest pricing ever! NHL 08 is still $60

FS/BB have been selling huge games (and especially games with hardware) with a $10 premium over all other retailers...Rock Band, GH, Wii Fit, etc, have all been without fail more expensive at FS. They say it's the economy, but why isn't it National? It's just a gouge...

In the flyer it's $59.99 for the 360 version, let me guess... it'll be $69.99 for the PS3 lol.

If you think back more than a couple years ago, games in Canada were inevitably priced $10-15 more than the customary US$60 MSRP to account for our traditionally weaker dollar. Then our dollar spiked and everyone started screaming for price parity, and we got it- games sold for $60 on both sides of the border. Then our dollar starting tanking again, but because of the economy, retailers said they would hold off increasing prices until after the 2008 holiday rush. Well, it's March 2009, and retailers aren't biting the bullet anymore, so we're back to a $10 premium. That being said, if Amazon can still charge $59.99 for new releases, offer a 10% pre-order discount, AND throw in free shipping, there's no reason why the big box retailers can't as well. IMO they're simply riding the new release hype and gouging us, which is why I don't buy video games there. Amazon FTW!

Well Amazon doesn't need a store-front with rent, and also doesn't need to hire a buncha generally totally un-knowledgable employees =P
Yeah I got RE5 off amazon for 49 after tax!!
Long live the 10$ coupon!!

yea, but in terms of retail stores this deal is the best i've seen (however most Zellers never seem to have new releases) and a lot of people don't really shop online or on amazon.

Based on the demo, the 360 had a slightly superior look. So far this generation, all the Capcom games have looked better on the 360, including DMC4 and SFIV is the latest example.
Having said that, go for you favorite controler and best price when choosing multiplatform games.

Shouldn't be hard to price match FS/BB since it is only a $10 difference... so go early on release day before they started making up reason(s) to stop honoring it

if its available for both platforms, go for whichever is cheaper. PS3 games seem to hold their TIV higher than 360 games and for longer, but if you're not planning on trading then that's nothing to worry about.

Your correct. People who have played other Resident Evil games will be familiar with the game play. People who aren't, are use to Gears of War or other first person shooters and have extremely high expectations. This game isn't supposed to be a shooting fest. It's a survival horror game. The controls are an important aspect of the suspense in the game, changing it would be changing the game.

Well, if you all ever played RE4, you can actually walk+shoot. RE5, being a similar game to RE4 and not the traditional "birds eye view" game, for some reason, they took out the walk+shoot function....

I once spoke to the buyer for the electronics section at Zellers when I was looking for Fallout 3. I turned in my air miles for HBC gift cards specifically to buy that game.
He told me that Zellers won't carry an xbox game unless they can get a good enough deal to sell it for less than $60.
I don't necessarily trust what he said, but from what I can recall I've never seen an xbox game at Zellers for more than $60 unless it was a special game like GH.

Well you weren't playing RE4. I think Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 was the only RE game to do that, and the game sucked.

I collect achievements more than trophies. But the thing is, I played RE4 on ps2 so I might get used to the controller. I download the demo on 360 and the controls was kinda weird for me and haven't download it on ps3 to test out the controls.

they had a great idea unfortunately they reconsidered after the flyer had already gone to press. thats probably because it is too low a price and someone got reamed out at headquarters when they saw all the corrections they had to print.

I played the demo this weekend and apparently you can't walk and slash with your knife either, which REALLY sucks. I don't mind the Stop to Shoot Mechanism since I got use to it in RE4, and that is still one of my fav games. I was scared to about that concept before RE4, but you get use to it fast. Hope they let us slash though while walking in the real thing.
