I'm planning to go to Hong Kong sometime in April.

There's a seat sale right now, and I'm looking at Air Canada's website and there doesn't seem to be a problem looking for a flight from Toronto to Hong Kong.

But on the return, it doesn't allow you to select the nonstop return flight from HK to Toronto. While the alternatives via Vancouver are also more expensive.

Anyone have luck with this?

try selecting another date for the return flight
Maybe on that date it is sold out in that fare bracket so it won't let you select the direct flight.

^yah

with the seat sale, most flights are almost sold out.
i'm going to HK in April as well. there are a few seats left on my flight so they have bumped up the price.

Damn that sucks, I guess I should've booked a bit earlier, sigh.

I've searched days in both the spring and the fall, and nothing I've looked has anything for a return flight...

I just searched the air canada site and from a Sept. 6th departure to Sept 22nd still has seats. Lots of seats in October too if you want to go during that time. Anything before Sept 6th you won't find any since it is still high season.

Ah I ended up getting a flight via Chicago on United for $850 with tax, I guess that's a decent deal.

Try to get a window seat for the Chicago to HK leg. It will help a lot with sleeping through that bit. :)

I think anything below $1000 for a direct flight to HK is pretty cheap.
The times for the Cathay Pacific flight is pretty brutal on the return trip. Flight leaves at 2:30am in HK and arrives in Toronto at 5:30am. Such a waste of a day in HK considering Air Canada leaves HK at 3:30pm. With that flight at least you can have lunch before you go to the airport.

I just got my ticket for my HK and Tokyo trip Sept 6th - 22nd for $1285 today.

Yeah, definitely.

And I believe the CX flight to Toronto is an afternoon flight, like the AC one.

Hmmm.... interesting schedule. But I guess you can look at it as you can spend the entire day before you go fly.

Apparently this is the summer schedule until the 24th of October, then back to their original departure at 00:15 from YYZ, and departure from HKG at 16:35 back to YYZ.

exactly the reason why i'm taking AC. leaving HKG at 2:30am is a bit much for me. and the fact I only paid $750 for round trip direct flight. I can't believe i paid more than double that amount 2 years ago.

damn, what an odd departure/arrival time for HKG-YYZ. isn't there a curfew at YYZ until 6AM? I've been on YVR/LAX/SFO to YYZ redeyes scheduled to arrive at 6-6:30AM that were held at the departure airport because of a favorable tail wind.
