Hey Guys,
Was Just on the Bike Depot website and they've posted their Bike Show specials
www.bikedepot.com
Some really hot deals in there, The obvious one being the Specialized Roubaix discussed earlier. Now only if I can sell my wife on the idea I need three bikes. They do have that great price on an Specialized ERA Hardtail I could get for her..hmmmmm

These are entry-level road bikes. Specialized makes great bikes, but I prefer Cervelo. Let's face it, if you have $1000+ to spend for a bike, then you might as well add a bit more to get the best. Also, I think you can get better prices at the show. I saw some really good sales at the fall bike show. So keep your eyes open.

Nothing too spectacular yet.
+ those prices can be haggled with at the show itself.
Either right at the beginning of opening, there are ton of deals to be had
OR
Wait till the last day... last hour.. but somewhat limited choices

It amazes me that $1000 still gets you a DEORE equipped bike. Decent prices for Canada but they suck compared to the US. Last summer I bought a Marin LX equipped hybrid for $600US + 40 shipping. That, is a deal.

i'm surprised they still have stock as far back as '07. Must be odd sizes.
I paid 1400 tax in at the show for my '06 roubaix + shoes + pedals 3 yrs back and it's treated me well :)

You pay way too much attention to the groupset.
The cost of an XT rear derailleur is like $50. Add in some shifters for $100 and you have an 'XT' equipped bike. Big deal. My deore bike shifts just as well as my XT bike. Unless you're counting grams, who cares. Shimano has about 10 classes of groupsets, but the way I see it is that it comes down to four:
Cheap (Tourney, 2200)
Entry (Altus, Acera, Alivio, Sora)
Best (Everything else)
Overpriced / Racing (XTR / Duraace)
Here I'm talking shifters/derailleurs only. Honestly, the entry level stuff is pretty good too. I can tell a difference between Altus and Deore, but even the Altus does what it's supposed to and works surprisingly well. I've ridden deore every day through rain and snow for 2 years, and I haven't had any problems.
I hardly pay attention to the groupset anymore. The frame/fork and wheels are much more important. (And tires of course, but those can be replaced fairly cheaply from probikekit)
I guess what I'm against is the way these things are priced. The difference between bike A with Deore and bike B with altus is <$50, but the price premium is >>$50.

I dont think its carry over stock. I got a bike last week and when I went to Broadway they had received a pretty big shipment of these bikes ( at least 100 units of assorted models). Looks like they were part of a special clearout order they got from Specialized. The roubaix's were all 54's and 56's (maybe a couple of 52's as well.
I'm working the weekend of the bike show so this deal was perfect for me. Plus im not much of a trade show shopper. They were selling a bunch while I was at the shop (between sequioas and roubaixs) For whats its worth I really like my bike if it is possible to guage how nice a bike is when youre on the trainer.

I hope XT shifts better than DEORE. The Marin I bought has DEORE shifters and they are poo compared to the Sram x.9 on my MTB. I purchased some XT shifters to upgrade over the winter. My wife's bike is Atlus or some low Shimano groupo, I can easily feel the difference in shift quality to the X.9
I wanted to buy an LX equipped bike which for some reason seems to be impossible to find. Its either DEORE mixed with an XT rear derailleur or all XTR which is a ripoff. I went for the DEORE/LX bike and upgraded.
I agree, there are other important parts on the bike like the crank, wheels, forks.....

Cervelo +1!
That's why I picked up a Cervelo SLC last year for a sweet deal!

So the Roubaix is worth it at $999?
What about the Sequoia, anybody tried them?
My LBS don't stock Specialized for me to see myself but I believe they are supposed to be good stuff.
Any ideas on shipping cost from bikedepot?

And last year I bought a US Subaru. When the exchange is in your favour it's a great deal. Today it's not really relavant.

picked up my roubaix 54 today. it's a sweet entry level road bike and IMHO a steal at this price. they are selling at the bike show price -- i don't think you can get it any cheaper, even last minute at the bike show. some other guy bought 3 while i was there.

$999 for the roubaix is stellar. who cares what year it is? I have an allez elite that is my daily rider and it hasn't needed more than a cable lube and tightening over the past 3 years. find a good local bike shop and these bikes will last forever.

Seriously!
How is it that we have RFD member's with family at Cervelo and the RFD HQ is right beside Cervelo, yet we are still getting gouged by the dealers?!?!?
Just last year at least 2 people in the biking thread have purchased a Cervelo.
I have the $ ready for a new bike, I just need a discount on a P1.

I'd love close to cost price on an R3 with Dura Ace.
thanks :)

You obviously don't race mountain bikes or count grams like myself.
I've been riding/racing for 20+ years, XTR has never failed me(whereas XT has failed me). And it was the only way to get my Scott Scale Carbon hardtail in the 19 pound range!
XTR overpriced? Hardly... If you want the best, you have to pay up! all bike components are inexpensive (XTR not that much more expensive than XT if you shop around and they're both significantly better Than Altus/Deore/LX when you reach a certain level of cycling skill). Frame's, forks, and wheelsets are where you can really spend big bucks, but also makes the most difference. You're 100% correct there.
+1 for BikeDepot! Great guys to deal with!

what's the mark up on full bikes? 900 off a 1900 dollar bike seems to me the profit margin is around 100% but these are older models

I've read on one site that bike dealers NEED to mark up the bikes 36% to stay in business to offset overhead (I'm assuming that is based off the final price, not invoice+36%).
I say it's reasonable to think that the markup is 100% just like other fancy items like Oakley sunglasses.

Why not? I am too. I am sure it will be a long line. But funny enough people in Toronto paying much more for the stuff being produce (or developed) in Toronto than people in US.
