View Full Version : Bridgestone RE-01R Performance Summer Tires CLEARANCE

Bridgestone just brought out a new tire to replace the Potenza RE-01R, so now you can find crazy deals on the RE-01R at any Bridgestone authorized dealer. The best deal however, is from Tire Rack, in the US.
For a common size like 205/55/16, you're paying less than $300US for a set of 4! That's insanely cheap for a high performance summer tire! By the time you add taxes, duties, and shipping to the GTA, it priced out to just over $500US. That's a steal!
All sizes are on sale!
FYI, this is NOT an all season tire. Do not even attempt to drive with these in the winter, as they are unsafe. For those of us who have winter tires though, as a summer tire for a daily driver, ricers, or especially for the track, this is as good as it gets. Maximum performace and it glues your car to the road.
Again, Tire Rack in the US has the best deal on these. You can have them shipped directly here, or ship them to a dealer in Buffalo and pick them up there across the border. They are also on sale at dealers here in Canada, but the cheapest I've found is close to $700 CDN.

I bought these tires about a year ago in Vancouver, and they cost about $900. Did a quick quote with this deal, and shipped to Point Roberts would cost $320 USD. HOT!
Granted, the fact that I bought them a year ago and almost need a new set say something about the tread wear...not exactly the best.

On another forum I read from various people that you should call them instead, because even though they may not have the size you want now online, they are getting more shipments in this week, and can take your order for the size you want over the phone. It's worth a shot.

You can ship them to either TSB (http://www.tsbshipping.com) or The Letter Carrier (http://www.thelettercarrier.com). They charge a nominal fee for collecting your purchases, and you pay a bit in customs on the way back across the border.
Usually the custom fees aren't too bad, and it's only a 30 minute drive from Vancouver. Much cheaper than the $120 they want to charge you to ship to Canada plus the brokerage fees!

Can anyone recommend a place near the border for us Torontonians in Ontario, near Buffalo where we can have our tires shipped to, like the places listed above?

Based on the 140 rating, probably not as long as most tires, since these are soft compoun street legal performance tires. If you're using these as daily driver tires, I've heard to expect no more than 30k, if you're lucky.

Of note...
Some of these tires are 2005 production which means that they are over 3 years old at minimum, and possibly over 4. A tire's shelf life is about 6 years. But with a treadwear rating of 140, they'll probably wear out before they become a hazard.

Actually, on the other forums I read about people who bought theirs from tirerack, most of them are getting tires produced anywhere from '06 to '08, so it's nothing to really worry about.

From personal experience, I've put about 10k on them and they're already down to 50%. Granted, I've also auto-x'ed 3 times with them.
Don't expect them to last more then 3 years. But boy are they sticky :cheesygri

It does say 2005 production for some sizes on the page you linked, so i'd say there is a legitimate chance of getting a pretty old set of tires. Like I said though, if you drive regularly, these will wear out too fast for the age to matter much.

For those of us that have winter tires for the winter (in the Toronto area), realistically we'd only be using these for 7 months every year, and as daily commutes with no racing on them, I'd expect them to last me 3 years or so.

I love how all these people are coming on here to complain about the tread life. Why do people on rfd insist on commenting on threads for things that to them aren't a good deal?
Hello! it's a R compound performance tire guys. Sticky rubber and long treadlife don't go together. If you are looking for treadlife, you wouldn't be buying a performance tire anyways. For those who are looking for a performance tire, these represent a really hot deal. On all the auto forums I have seen this on, everyone is raving about what a good deal this is.

Agreed (though these are not an R compound tire). These are akin to people complaining about burn in on plasmas when they are using them as a pc monitors. These tires are a very hot deal if you use them for their intended purposes. That being said, if you're not putting in at least some track/auto-x time on these tires, then they become a warmer deal, imo.

If you care about treadwear this is the wrong thread for you. I bought mine when the sale first started. Set of 245/45/17's for sub $600. I'll take the treadwear hit for the increased traction. I burn through tires every 2x summers so these will do nicely

RE-11s are massively expensive still. Will have to wait till they drop, I think.
Look at Nitto Invo in the meantime. Apparently, quite good for track, but also good wet handling (which the REs don't seem to have as much).

to those that don't understand. These tires are not your regular joe tires. They are as close as racing tire compound as you can get for the street. Good compound for Honda applications, maybe not so great on other cars. Bridgestone has developed a better tire already. It's on the new JDM CTR,
POTENZA RE070. The tire is comparable on Suzuka track. Depending the application and the type of tarmac. One compound could be better on a another one on another track, just like in F1 a few years ago. Michelin was better than Bridgestone on certain tracks, others Bridgestone was better on the others. When it came to rain tires, Bridgestone killed Michelin. But I think just before Michelin pulled out of F1, Michelin had closed the gap on their rain tires.
Soft compound tires are not suppose to be long distance champs, but they offer more grip. For the DD or long distance drivers, go harder compound for endurance. For racers, endurance tires are like Leman, you pace yourself till near the end of the tire life, then your fuel would be close to low, and run your fastest laps to create a gap to allow you to stay ahead after the pits. Soft compounds are really great for short races or time trials.
For my daily driving, decent hard compounds are fine for me, since I'm not aggressive on the street, release it on the tracks, obviously with different cpd tires.

Had a set of potenza's on my 18's. Lasted a couple seasons, but MAN they were sticky. I could fly around turns like nobody's business
2 issues tho. They wear quickly, and they are LOUD!! but these are meant for performance, not economy and comfort.
FWIW, i now have some nice falken performance all season (inside outside, not rotational fyi) rubber on my car, and although it doesn't grab like CrAzY, its still not too bad. and the comfort and quiet ride are well worth it.
Guess i'm just getting old. Choosing comfort over performance..... Don't you hate it when your parents are right! lol

i am looking at them as well, i read somewhere that the rubber compound is soft - and thus will wear quicker compared to other AS tires. what are your thoughts with these tyres after riding on them for a year?

As far as the falkens go, they don't seem to wear nearly as quickly as the potenza's, and the price is right. comfort and noise is amazingly good.
IMO, they are exactly what they claim to be... performance all seasons. Grips nicely (as my car will pull and shimmy on uneven roads with these tires) but wears much slower than performance tires. Oh, and they are good in the rain too. My potenza's had me hydroplaning at 70km/h. These things feel comfortable at 120 in the rain no problem (well, so far)

Falken 912's are marketed as performance all seasons.
Don't expect too much performance, but just a step up from all seasons.

There is still lots of sidewall flex on them. Far from a performance summer tire, but for city driving, these would suffice.

I would... for what the are. I'm not comparing them to the potenza's i used to have, that would just be silly. But for all seasons, they are about as sticky as you'll get. and the price is great.
Anyways, all i'm saying is, they are great for what they are... a compromise. ;)
