I have heard that in the low season for Vegas, hotels are so desperate to fill rooms, that you can call up hotels to compare prices, and some will even offer free stays just in hopes of you eating and gambling.

A guy I know said he's gotten emails in the past during low season from a hotel he stayed at, offering 1 cent per night room rates.

Anybody done this before? Is this true?

Not to be a total dick but all your questions have been answered MANY MANY times in that huge Vegas deals thread.

If there's any particular post or page you know of in that thread that discusses this, it would help greatly. In the meantime, I guess I'll start on page 1.

Actually start on the last page and work your way back. Within 6 pages im willing to bet you find your answer. Long story short though to get free rooms you have to sign up for casinos players cards and use them when your in vegas. If you spend enough (or are lucky enough) the casino will send you offers for cheap or free rooms. There are lots of good rates to be had right now though even for the general public.

I know some guys who got to vegas late, late night and didn't want to pay for a room, so they slept outside on a hill just on the edge of town, beside the Hwy.

You can try out this site to get a free night or two, if you're lucky:

I used the BRG to get a night free at the Disneyland Wyndham. That was before I found the blog.

Once you get to Vegas, sign up for the total rewards program at one of the Harrah's casinos, I only did about $200-$300 of coin-in and I get free hotel offers almost every month.
