Yes, you have to show you don't have residential ties based on their rules.

And NO, being a non-resident of Canada does not mean losing your Canadian citizenship. Residency and citizenship are two different things. You can only give up your Canadian citizenship if you have some other citizenship, and if you do it will be hard to come back to Canada.
