I bought Christmas cards there, and spent $25.
When I got home I found out my mom already bought Christmas Cards for me, so I didn't need to buy them.
Anyway, it was Christmas weekend, Christmas break, so I was too lazy to return the cards. It was my break, I wanted to sleep :cheesygri
Anyway, I returned them a month and a week later. They told me the card isn't "in the system" anymore. After 15 mins, they ended up doing it the long way and I got my full money back... in store credit.
It was in a receipt, and it expires in three months. I basically just give them the receipt, a new recipet will print out and will expire in another new three months.
I don't want store credit, I never shop there. Can I buy something, use the store credit, and refund it? Will I get my money back and will it look fishy?
Thanks.

No, you won't get cash even if you buy the items with the store credit and return it. You will still get store credit.

Oh really?
When I go to Footlocker, they return everything in cash.

There is no law requires the store to refund anything. Different company has different refund policy.

Alright, thanks.
I use to work at a movie theater, and we could give them the money back anyway. If they wanted the money back or put it back in the credit.
Can I get someone who had a same situation as me, or someone who worked at Carlton Card to confirm this?
I'm just annoyed that if I don't use my $25 in three months, it expires.

Do they sell gift card certificates? If so, buy $25 worth of them and you'll get around the expiration hassle, since they cannot expire anymore in Ontario.

I bet they're annoyed that you returned christmas cards well after this christmas season was over.
Bet you've never worked that type of retail before.
You're lucky they didn't tell you to stick it in your hat. Most places would have.

More info on what you mean by this?
If you are really desperate just wait for someone friendly looking buying a bunch of stuff and offer to sell them your store credit for a small discount (or full price if you are a cute girl).

But seriously OP, just buy some cards. Unless you're starving, it's always good to have a few birthday cards laying around in case you need them, especially since Mother's Day and Father's Day are both coming up, and CC sells cards and small gifts.

If you can return a Carlton Cards store credit to Footlocker and get cash, I'll give you DOUBLE the value of the credit.

So...let me get this straight. You're too lazy to promptly return the cards you bought because 'it was your break' then almost two months later the retailer was good enough to allow you to return the products even though I'm sure they didn't have to...and now you're complaining that the credit that you were lucky to get in the first place expires in a couple more months?
Sheesh.
Go into the store and buy some stuff. Buy some Christmas or birthday cards for the future. Buy other merchandise. Buy something for your mother.
And quit yer whinging. Beggars can't be choosers and in this place you are definitely not in a position to be able to choose.

or you could sell it on the BST part of the forums... Although I doubt there is much demand for it.
