Picked up a Poulan Pro Chainsaw tonight at Home Depot in Edmonton.
Saw a demo on clearance for $99 at the Edmonton west store, called around and found new in box at the Westmount location. Many of the other edmonton stores had new in box as well.
There is actually 2 different models on clearance:
PP4218AVX
http://www.weedeater.com/poulanpro/viewProductDetails.do?productID=163&DealerModelID=null
42cc, 18" bar, Bonus Carrying Case and Extra Chain, 3.2oz Oil
PP3516AVX
http://www.weedeater.com/poulanpro/viewProductDetails.do?productID=161&DealerModelID=null
35cc, 16" bar, 3.2oz Oil
Both models scan at $99.00, regular priced at $259.00 and $229.00 respectively.
With the current $25 coupon this weekend, the cost is $74.00 plus taxes.
Amazing deal for these chainsaws...

Great price on this medium-duty saw. Frankly, unless you own a bush lot, either should be more than enough saw for most people.

Is this YMMV? I called the Peterborough, Ontario store and they are on clearance but for 25% off the original price. So its $194.25 ($259-25%) before the coupon.
Far cry from the nice deal out West!
EDIT: Item must be scanned in because shelf price is incorrect. I called another Home Depot and the guy in Seasonal mentioned that they were just reduced in price. I asked what they were scanning at. He checked it and outloud said "Holy sh*t....$99!". I ran down to my nearest store and sure enough the one I called earlier today, once scanned in show up as $99. I was then able to apply the $25 off coupon...nice.
Thanks OP for the heads-up. This will definitely come in handy as I have to clean up the mess that Hydro made recently when they decided to clear cut around the lines on my property.

I picked up the last 16" at my location. When I called on the phone, a man was there buying the 18" and when he heard the sales lady talking to me on the phone he told his wife to grab the other/last 18" too(greedy bugger). So I only got the 16", but still a great deal, I needed a chainsaw!
Thanks for the tip!

Picked one up this morning for $99.00. But can't seem to find the $25.00 coupon anywhere and the staff at Home Depot had not heard of it. Where can I find a coupon?
blainehamilton
Feb 15th, 2009, 01:29 PM
Coupon is on the www.homedepot.ca website, go to eflyer tab, and open the link for the New Mover Winter Guide 2008 and go the page 30.
The print quality isn't great, and they questioned me in store where I got it, so I got them to surf to that site at customer service. No problems then...
Is this YMMV? I called the Peterborough, Ontario store and they are on clearance but for 25% off the original price. So its $194.25 ($259-25%) before the coupon.
And I wouldn't bother calling. The Westmount store I went to still had the regular price tags up, so the staff probably quoted you the price on the tag and nothing more...

I recommend not buying the tool-less chain tensioning system chainsaws. I have a PP4620AVX (20" refurbished from XS Cargo) and it does not hold tension for very long. It seems to need tensioning after every 10 cuts.
I also have a Canadian made Pioneer P25. :cheesygri

Yup. I'm planning on trying it out in a few weeks at the lakelot. We had a couple of trees come down in the yard including one that took down the main powerline to the cabin.
Hydro company fixed the line, but just left the tree to the side without moving it. At least it didn't fall on my trailer...
I got mine out of the box about 30 minutes ago. Jokingly asked my wife if she minded if I started it up inside. :cheesygri
Retensioning is very common with these models after 5 to 10 uses. The difference is it takes 5 minutes or less to do. This is really true for the first couple of hours of use. The chain relaxes and stretches as much as 5% from it's unused new size.

Thanks OP, got one of the 18" models at the HD on MacLeod Tr, Calgary. It seemed to be the last of that type, but 3 of the 16" version on the shelf as of an hour ago. The cashier convinced me to fill out a HD card application to get an additonal $25 off (on top of the $25 off promotion covered here) (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=700517), but it turned out that you can only apply one discount per transaction. Nevertheless, an outstanding dealio at $74.

Picked up a 16" at one store.....it was on the clearance table and marked at $229.00. I had them check stock at other stores and found one nearby that was supposed to have 4 X 18" units in stock.
When I got to the second store (Sherway Gardens) 10 mins later, there was only one in stock...it was on the clearance table with no price on it.
The RFD effect!
Thanks very much OP....I also had a tree come down this winter. This saw comes in handy.

Too flimsy for your use? This saw is perfect for the avg home owner... And if you're a lumberjack, then you're likely runing much higher end saws (Echo, husquvarna, johnsred, etc)
For $100, you can't go wrong.

I`ve had a 64cc echo for the last 15 years and use it hard. This saw would not last a summer and would take 5 times as long to fell a tree.
If you are hours away from another saw you do not want something flimsy.

Most of the people buying a chainsaw could not handle 64cc safely.
How much did that saw set you back 15 years ago. My guess is a fair bit more than $99.
We cut a cord or two of wood every couple of years, and just fall and cut up trees that are dead or unsafe. Maybe 3 or 4 a year.
I can't justify a $300+ saw purchase for something like that, and neither can most of the other members here...

I think I paid around 300.00 so it comes to about 20.00 per year. I do have a saw like the 99.00 one for trimming or if you have to climb up a tree.
It is a great deal for a light duty saw.

I went to the Yorkdale store tonight - they has 2: one $89.99 (reg 159)and a bigger one for 129.99 (reg 229). They looked kind of beaten up - one had obvious signs of rust. They were outside the box - most likely demos - maybe some parts missing.
Decided not to pick one up as they did not look in good shape. Still there as of 8:30PM tonight if anyone wants one of these.
I am going to save my money for a Stihl.

Absolutely - plus remember, out here in AB, we don't have too many 24" hardwood trees to cut. A 16-18" saw will work just fine for most of our trees.
I stopped in @ HD to look at the $99 unit and it looks just like the Craftsman one I bought a year ago or so. Wonder if its another rebrand?

The unboxed units don't come with any accessories/case/etc (from what they've told me, they don't usually keep them). Computer is reporting 4 of 18"s left at the Markham East location, but speaking with the associate, he confirmed none. Computer probably not accurate at these low quantities.
These are what I physically saw:
Yesterday Lunch: 1 UnBoxed 18" unit = Woodbridge (same isle as other chainsaws, but at the other end of it)
Yesterday Lunch: 1 Boxed 16" unit = Woodbridge
Yesterday Lunch: 1 UnBoxed 16" unit = Woodbridge
Yesterday 6pm : 1 Boxed 16" unit = North Brampton (clearance area by plants)
Yesterday 6pm : 1 UnBoxed 16" unit = North Brampton
Today Lunch: 1 or 2 UnBoxed units (not sure size) = Toronto, Dufferin (overhead, secured to a shelf)
None Left (from what I could find):
Brampton South
Richmond Hill
Spoke with:
Markham East - reported a 16" left
Markham - said no 18" left
If somebody happens to find themselves buying too many 18"s in the GTA, I'd appreciate buying it from you! :cheesygri
Do I really need the 18"er?!? No, but the extra 2" of reach will be important when the zombies come!

Since I wasn't specifically looking for chain saws, I don't know the price and the models but they had at least six on the clearance area, near the outdoor garden tools at the south (deep south end just east of Deerfoot Trail) in Calgary.
They also had a couple Echo chain saws and leaf blowers in two shopping carts in the outdoor garden area. Some of the units looked like they were last years display models. Others could have been returns. They seemed prepared to move on the price but I wasn't looking for chain saws or leaf blowers. I don't personally own any Echo products. When I was looking for a leaf blower last year, people highly recommended Echo products.

Just bought a 16" at HD Winnipeg McPhillips today. They only had an 18" display with no price and a stack of 5 or 6 16" new in box on the floor under the shelf nearby. There was no signage or prices marked on anything. As reported it scanned at the front for 99.
Funny thing is they had an open box 14" on clearance for 100$ nearby.
So anyone in Winnipeg want a 16" there are at least 5 at this location as of Wed 5pm.

Oakville HD (QEW & Burloak) had 3 of the 16" left today. They were sitting on a clearance table and clearly marked $99. These were BNIB.

i have read the coupon, and it expired feb 15th so it is probably no longer accepted. However at my local HD they had a 16" that scanned for 99$

Just wondering, has anyone had a chance to try this saw since their purchase?

Guys, thanks for this hot price!!
I just picked up my 18" Poulan Pro at Home Depot at St Henri, Montreal yesterday for 99$ less 25$ (1st purchase on hom depot card).
I probably will start her up in about 2 weeks at country!
I had to help lady do search on her computer with good UPC code. She tried with "Poulan Pro" and found nothing. What a ****** search engine they have. I had to use Google to get the exact UPC, and then she was able to confirm it was in stock :)
Ciao...

In reply to those asking if anyone has used these saws, I've had the 18" for a year and can give some feedback. As someone else has already mentioned, the tool less chain tightener doesn't hold very well. If all you are doing is minor brush cutting this won't be a problem. But if you are planning on heavy use like firewood, unscrew the black tightening knob and chuck it in the trash, it just doesn't grip the bar enough. Replace it with a proper hex nut and heavy washer and you might stand a chance of completing a truck load ot two. What happens is the chain adjustment wheel moves a block of steel with a tiny pin that pokes into and moves the bar. If you jam the bar into a cut and even slightly bend it side to side, you'll bust off the pin and you're done for the day.
A good procedure to follow when adjusting chain slack is use the wheel to get the tension where you want it, tighten the nut, then back off the wheel a few turns. If HD has those pins available as spare parts, buy at least 1 and make sure it's in the truck, they are fairly easy to change.
Other than that it's a decent and reasonably powerful saw for the money, but definitely not in the Husky/Stihl league.
