Future Shop -- 10.1 MP Casio Exilim EX-Z200 $149

Every other store I have seen this in is selling for $275+. It has been released in the States, but until this week was not sold in Canada (I believe). Future Shop for some reason has it on at $149.99, and competitors (NCIX, BestBuy) are selling for near double. From Mon-Thurs it was sold as a pre-sale, with release date of Feb 13/09.

*EDIT* a quick search on Google Shopping showed that even American online retailers are selling for $180+...this price has me confused!!!

Not sure how hot it is. If you look at it spec-wise across other cameras in this price range, it's a good price. At the same time, it's all about image quality but reviews are pretty positive (again, relative to price point). You likely won't find any other wide angle lens cameras (28mm) for under $200 either, it's something that caught my eye.

Not sure if anyone else will be interested -- but it's a cheap, high resolution camera with some pretty attractive features!

I was just going to post about this very camera at FS! I ordered it last night before I headed out for home. As the OP said, the cheapest I can find it for online is @ US retailers for U$200 or so with most being in the U$235 - U$280 range. I just called FS to confirm my order and the CS rep said it is ship confirmed and will ship first thing Monday. I am assuming they will honour this price given they are about to ship it. I wanted to be sure this deal would go before I posted it. Time will tell I guess.

It's slim, good resolution, brand name camera which also has IS which is something I decided the camera would need after talking to wifie yesterday afternoon. I figure for $178 tax in I can't go wrong with it as a "purse camera" for the wife.

This is an alright camera. I'm not really a fan of casio and it's features but for $150 it's pretty good. I have no idea why this would retail for more than $250.

I work at Futureshop and I rarely if ever sold casio cameras unless they were under $150 because you can get comparable cameras by Canon usually for the same price.

This is a good price for these features though because a similar camera is the Canon SD880IS, benefit it is canon but for $150 its a good price if you're not looking for a camera that will last a long time.

Hmmm .... given the post above and the "wifie factor" involved maybe I'll add the 2 year PSP to the camera for $40 + tx. Sounds like it might be a worth while investment lol.

casio's aren't bad. they're fairly compact so you can take them anywhere. however, in terms of ergonomics it's so-so. Not easy to hold/handle and higher chance of it falling on the ground (won't look so pretty anymore..or worse, some sort of malfunction). If I ever pass it to a friend or stranger to take some photo I would always worry they drop it. Maybe just my own personality...I like my things 9.9/10 condition.

I will fully admit that I love Canons...in fact, every camera I've owned has been a Canon SD (Elph) series. Their longevity is also something I like, however my roommate has had a Casio for (no joke) 6 years, and he's an avid biker, hiker, etc (i.e. drops it all the time, and still works great).

Having said that, the SD880 is indeed comparable (I was thinking of buying it), and of course you would sell more Canons than Casios (I think any retailer would) -- they're just more popular. Direct comparison of these two cameras yields similarities in terms of optical zoom (4x), wide angle lens (28mm), and other basics.

But the Casio is cheaper (880 is $270), has mechanical image stabilization (CCD) over optical, and better aperture ranges for low-light. I plan to open it up when I receive it and put it through some tests, and return if image quality is not high enough. Figure you can't go wrong at that price!

P.S. if you just look up Exilim EX-Z200 (no BK as that is the colour designation) you will find a handful of reviews, all from 2008 US releases.

Don't. In 1-2 years, you'll be able to buy this camera for 50$.
