Received the following email from Shaw, seems like a decent deal if you don't mind the automatic payment plan. I'm not so fond of pre-authorized billing so I won't be getting this myself, but I hope others find it useful.

Deal is either Basic cable for $9.95 or Classic cable for $19.95, first month free then the next six months at the discounted price.

Yes it will go back to normal rates unless you cancel it and some other family member opens new account on his/her name. This deal is going on for long time.

Bad: you cannot activate outside hd boxes. Must be purchased from shaw only which is expensive.

Ha ya the student setup is pretty nice. Just annoying having to call in twice year.

Great thing about it, is that they really don't keep tabs. I gave my student ID to a bunch of friends and co workers so they could get in on the plan as well :razz: :lol:

I don't believe Shaw offers service in the GTA, and I don't recall seeing any student deals from Rogers Cable, so I don't think a student ID would be helpful to you.

I signed up for it once about 3 years ago, never had to call in again. They sent me a notice that my contract was expiring but I forgot to call in. Well the next month they just started billing me for the same amount that I was paying ($30+tax)

I have ShawHD and seems its been 1972 since they have gotten their HD picture and audio problems fixed. *sigh*
