I just took my car into the dealership a couple days ago, i went to pick it up today and the kid who went to get it for me comes back and is about to hand over the keys and he says he has to speak to his manager and drives off with my car after about 10 mins he comes back with my car and shows me too his manager, i ask the kid what's going on. He points out a huge dent and paint scrapes on the side of my car and say's was that there before? Of course it wasn't so I went to speak to the manager and they are fixing it for free... I gotta say i was quite impressed with the kid actually owning up to it as I would have definately drove off and a couple days down the road would have noticed it and been like WTF someone hit me and took off!

Wow, at least they are owning up to it.

Something like that happened to my mother (but it was not at a dealership) and they refused to acknowledge any responsibility.

Ever since then, I have always taken my camera to any service appointment, and taken photos all around my car right before I handed over the keys.

Honesty. Very rare at Dealerships these days. You're lucky this time.

Which dealership was it? I think that mentioning their name would be a positive thing here.

i had the ford dealership on the queensway (evans i think) really mess up my driver's side door. they slammed it into something that has that aluminum diamond plate pattern on it (usually you see it on mud flaps or the runners of a vehicle). I know they had it on a post on one of their lifts. I think what happened was someone opened the door into the lift when it was up. Fairly new vehicle too.

Long story short they claimed till they were blue in the face they would never damage a customer's vehicle and basically threw me out of there after an hour of staring at me blankly. bastards.

So did the kid cause it or was he just getting the car? I mean, kudos to the dealership for taking responsibility and getting it fixed, but there's some people praising the kid, but if he didn't do it and knew he wouldn't get into trouble (could've been a mechanic, another car driving through the dealership's parking area, etc.) and he just said, "hey, manager, it looks like someone dinged this customer's car", then it wasn't a big deal for him...

If he actually did cause the damage and admitted it to the manager, then, yeah, good for him, and good for the dealership in not trying to pretend it wasn't their fault.

At the dealership I go to, when I drop it off, someone immediately walks around it to note any damage on a picture of a car, writes down the mileage, etc. (same kind of form you see when renting a car) while I'm talking to a service advisor. I then sign off on it while signing off on what work I want done. They've been doing this for a while, and I suppose I've just been taking that for granted, considering the possible horror stories if it came down to my word against theirs.

if it was him, he most likely won't.

I remember doing co-op @ a Nissan dealership and there was a you guy who just became an apprentice working there and he was working on the companies vehicle but when parking he scratched up the whole side. Apparently it happened another time before(on a customers car) and the supervisor decided to fire him.

I guess it makes sense as he did get a chance before.
