View Full Version : Help me - Having frustrations with UPS

Waiting for two boxes from NCIX. I chose Free Shipping so NCIX chose UPS - probably because they were cheapest for them.
Supposed to come yesterday. We had a mix of rain/hail in Toronto, UPS tracking showed an "ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITION" status, okay, I wait one extra day. Status was back to "in transit" last night and had a estimate delivery date for today.
Waiting at home all day. Nothing came. I was furious when the clock ticked 7pm as I know I won't be getting anything until Tuesday at the earliest.
I check UPS tracking just now, and noticed that there is a status change today at around 9:30 stating: "THE RECEIVER REQUESTED A HOLD FOR A FUTURE DELIVERY DATE. UPS WILL ATTEMPT DELIVERY ON DATE REQUESTED / DELIVERY RESCHEDULED"
WTF? I never rescheduled anything. Is this how UPS says "we were too busy, try again later"?? Absolutely ridiculous.
Estimated delivery date was still today as listed on the website until this change. Haven't bothered calling as I doubt anyone's on the line, not going to wait and listen to classical music. I'll call Tuesday morning.

Anyone have similar experiences?

I ordered from NCIX once, bought a video card and I chose express shipping. They sent via Canada Post and I've never dealt with UPS because they don't have access to my mailbox, only CP would have access to my mailbox so I know they will leave my package there when I'm not home. Out of curiosity, why don't you just pick it from them? I'm pretty sure the item is at their depot...:razz::razz:

No idea which depot it is at. I'd at least need to make the phone call first, which now isn't really the right time.
But the last time I ordered something from UPS and wanted to pick up (around a year ago) they said I had to go to their warehouse at Jane and Steeles - and I live in Markham. What gives! There's a UPS outlet 5 minutes away from me!

I ordered something there on the weekend, your doing better than me with your tracking, I had the adverse weather thing for it when it arrived in Toronto on Tuesday, so it looks like it got sent back to Calgary where even now it still shows adverse weather.

I just called UPS and told them to not deliver the item and return it to NCIX.

You're funny.
The tracking as of this morning shows a rescheduled delivery date for TUESDAY. That's right, 3 FRIGGIN DAYS LATER (I realized Monday is a stat holiday but that doesn't mean I'm not pissed)
Damn you UPS. I was home all yesterday and you wasted my friggin time. And now I can't start my build cuz of this crappy company.

Did you call and ask if you can pick it from the closest depot?

I think he mentioned that his UPS depot is pretty far away. Thats one of my biggest pet peeves about UPS is that they only have one "Depot" per city (for the most part) and its usually way out of the way and requires quite the trek to get to.
They have all those UPS stores kicking around. Why not use them for parcel distribution?
I had heard that NCIX sometimes uses UPS on their free shipping events, which sucks, because UPS sucks. I'm in Edmonton and our depot is up in the northwest corner and is not accessible by transit which makes it impossible for me to get too. I wonder why any Canadian company would UPS. I know their cheap, but their customer service and delivery options are horrible.

Because UPS Stores are franchises & not owned by UPS. They are usually agents for other couriers as well.

True, but maybe that's something they can do for convenience, there's no reason they can't use their chain of stores, even if they are franchised. UPS would be much more convenient if they did that.
You can pick up Canada Post packages at the local franchised Shoppers Drug Mart locations, so it's not out of the ordinary.

You can get UPS to deliver to a UPS store but the store chrages a fee. The one in Ajax charges around $10.00. If you own any money for customs you'll have to pay that before hand.

Wow that is ridiculous, quite frankly it's probably easier and cheaper for them to deliver to the store rather to your house as well.

What good would calling UPS do? Its not like they have any relevant information or could do anything about the delivery. Better to rant on RFD. That's the only reasonable way to get the package sooner.

Nowadays, NCIX always uses UPS for shipping promotions.
And I can't say that I prefer UPS over other shipping companies but I definitely had any problems with them in the past. After maybe a dozen or so shipments with them, all of my packages arrived in a timely manner and were free of significant damage. Maybe a scratch here or there but no destroyed boxes.
I am kind of annoyed sometimes by how their depots are usually off in a random area far away from most people though. It can be a bit of a pain to get to if you miss your package...fortunately I usually always catch them by delivery attempt #3.
Anyway, my point is UPS might not be the greatest courier but there are people such as myself who haven't experienced any problems with them and I just wanted to remind everyone of that.

Sure I agree. This is the first time I've had problems with UPS, although I still dislike how their pickup depots are so far away. I used to hate Purolator for the exact same reason until they established one 5 minutes from my home (even closer than my nearest Canada Post outlet) =)
