Hi,
My dad left to the States to live and run business last month leaving an 1987 Acura Legend Coupe in the garage for the past 8 years that has never been started or anything. The car's body is rusted out and there is no battery in the car. I got into the car today to take out stuff that was stored in there and then I was thinking i can just "roll out" the car but the brakes doesn't work ... like if i press it .. it goes all the way down.
My question is if I call one of those "scrap yard" people that gives small cash (which i don't care) with free towing from the newspaper will they be able to take it out of the garage?
if not any safe tips to take it out of the garage? I don't know if it starts and the brakes doesn't work
thanks,
Chris

Absolutely, they'll send a tow-truck over, and they'll just winch it out, with chains, if necessary.
Any tow truck worth its salt has a winch.

post it up for sale on craiglist's list.
Someone might buy it for parts, since they are hard to find.

At least here in BC, you still have to deal with the paperwork ... so if the car is still registered in your Dad's name, you should get it transferred into your name so you can deal with it properly.

Leave it in the garage, and let the tow truck hook up and pull it out, or roll it out to the back of the tow truck when the truck arrives if space is really tight.
I have had a couple of cars removed this way, and they typically give about $100-150 for the car, but will need the ownership to turn over to the scrap yard.

It's located in the Sarnia area, too far from Mississauga ... don't think they'll come here but will give it a try.

My dad signed the transfer on the back of the ownership before he left and I haven't got the chance to transfer because before he left he wanted to get it towed away but I wanted to keep it as a "project" car but turned out I rather buy a used one from someone who took better care of their car. but now I decided to tow it away.
Thanks for the help, I call the newspaper and see how it goes tomorrow

does the e-brake work?
it works on mech system separate from hydraulic system.

The e-brake never worked before storing it, don't know the problem.

Such a shame. 8 years ago you could have gotten at least a few hundred for this car just for parts...

have it towed, some places will even throw you a little bit of cash for it.

After 8yrs, I'm pretty sure all the brakes would be seized up already.
So yeah, transfer car to your name, then call a junk yard.

why would u want to waste money transferring it to your name when u are giving it to a junkyard.
if your dad signed the back already, just call the junkyard and have them come take it. put their name in the buyer spot and thats it.
i have done same exact thing in the past.
dont waste any money transferring it to your name. u are not driving or doing anything with it. and its not like your dad is foing to come back and report it stolen.

You can try posting it on Kijiji, there might be some poor soul wanting it as a parts car and he would give a few dollars. plus you probably wouldn't have to deal with proof of ownership bs.

Got the car towed away.
Called to different place and ended up selling it for $400 to the highest offer of some scarp yard company in the newspaper has with free towing

The company I called didn't really gave out their name or anything but the number is 416 893 1594.
The guy that came (not in a racist way) it was a black man, I believe he's Jamaican ...Really friendly when talking to him briefly for a 1 min or 2 before he got to work and hauled the car away.
He used some chains and pulled the car out of the garage safely.
