Hi,

I have 2005 pontiac sunfire and its 5 year 100000km powertrain warranty is going to expire soon.My odometer is already on 98k km and I think I am going to get into bigger problem as soon as warranty going to expire.

Two weeks before I had coolant light on and I replenished two times right now its not showing any light I also took into dealership and they checked every thing and couldnt find any coolant leakage or anything.

My car is also shaking every morning when I start the car.

Now my biggest worry is what happes if I get into bigger hole after two weeks (My warranty is expiring after two weeks).

Is there any way I can buy extended warranty? If yes then from where? What is covered under warranty? How much does it cost?

Plz help.

before warranty ends, you should go a service advisors, complain about as much symptoms of the car as possible, tell him to write it ALL down and make a request for it to be checked under warranty.

Depending on ur luck, you might be charged a inspection fee of 1 hour of labour, but for 1XX$. You know the parts you complained about is safe.

BTW make sure u can pinpoint what problems u have.

CAR shaking is too vague.. u probably have to say why, when, how and under what condition it shakes and try to pinpoint them where to look as all technicians are lazy.

anyway i want to find out if we can still purchase extended warranty before it expires.. i remember reading somewhere u can...

Hi, Thank you for your reply.I already got them to check the red light/coolant problem.I was afraid it was leaking into engine but they say they couldnt find any leakage. They charged me around 80 bucks for inspection.

Can I ask them to inspect all engine check up?I dont mind paying them labour charge if problem/part can be fixed under warranty.

Plz advise me if any one find any information on after maket warranty.

Vivroy.

Why not? You are paying them. If they find something then they get work hours. If not that is OK too. Call GM and make sure they are aware of your issue. Keep the receipts.

what I do before the warranty ends is take the car to a CAA inspection centre and for about $100 they do a pretty good once over and its all written down in a report. I take this back to the dealership and have never had an issue getting any repairs done, the first time was over 3 grand in repairs and the 2nd time was about a grand. I guess the dealers find it hard to argue with CAA. I not sure about extended warranties but with that mileage it will be pricey, I was always sold them when I purchased the car.

Totally agree with this advice (best to have an inspection by CAA/Master Mechanic to avoid conflict of interest if you have the dealer do the inspection)

Good advice on this thread.

Better advice.

Get a Hyundai Elantra or Civic next time.

yea the advice telman gave is the best..

go to a mechanic u trust and get them to thoroughly check ur car and go to the dealership..since u already know what problem u have, they know what specifically to look for.

btw im not so fond of aftermarket warranty.

i forgot who wrote this, but i remember someone saying u can still get extended warranty before your manufacture warranty expires

You can get an extended warranty before the original warranty expires if you were the original buyer. Call to 2 or 3 GM dealerships and get prices on the phone - it's usually their financing guy you speak with. Go with the lowest price because they're all the same. Expect up to $1000/year for a warranty but that's just a ballpark.

I never heard of the CAA thing....they do provide caring service.sounds like a +1

Master Mechanic -1:
I took my car into them for an exhaust smell in the car. They said they could not find one. For another reason I took my exhaust manifold heat shield off (2 free bolts) and found a 3"-4" crack on the exhaust manifold; it was impossible not to see. How they missed that I will never know....oh yes I do: the guy was lazy and therefore a hack too. Head Office gave me a bunch of BS lines when I complained.

So there you go, if the Master Mechanic guy could not find that, how are they going to find anything at all?
