I want to start doing my own oil engines but I need to know where I can buy decent synthetic engine oil. I will probably buy it in bulk (4.7L engine). And where do I take the oil to throw it out? (I am currently in the GTA, North York)

You just refill the "new" bottles and return it to CT? Do you have to pay? Will they take it even if I dont buy it from them? Or if I have it in my own bottle (extractor)?

I don't know about CT but I know the City has Depots where you can drop off hazardous waste, including motor oil. See the link below:
http://www.toronto.ca/garbage/hhw.htm

You will see a link to "HHW depot" locations. Click on that and find the nearest depot.

Here is the direct link to the chart you need to see:

CT will take your old oil no matter where you bought it. Just bring it in in some old container (I used a windshield washer fluid container). They will not charge you for it either.

Yea I just leave the old oil (in windshield washer fluid or old oil bottles) at the side of my Canadian Tire after hours. They take them.

also Jiffy Lube has an agreement with the ON Gov't to take waste oil + used filters, for free.
read it in the paper today.

which is good since i would never bring my car to Jiffy Lube..

Maybe a foolish question but why do they take it even if you havent bought it there? Dont they have to pay to throw it out?

Where do you drop it off? At the parts counter area?

I usually ask the tech in the service bay if they'll take it. Then they just usually tell me where to drop off the jug(s).

I just go to the desk where you make service appointments and they usually just tell me to set it down right there and they will take care of it.

I think they may even be making a small amount of money on it or they have some agreement with the government. I think some of the oil is recycled?

Sounds simple enough. I thought I would have to take it to depots and stuff like that... There are CT all over the place. I think Im going to start doing my own now...

There is an extra fee when you buy new oil or filters. It is about 50 cents, that fee pays for disposal of the old stuff.
