February 12, 2009 ...
A Toronto woman has been charged with fraud after a Future Shop employee connected her with a fraudster who hit other stores in the electronics chain.
Police say the woman, 49, tried to obtain store credit at the Upper James Future Shop on Tuesday afternoon, but a clerk recognized her as the suspect in a credit fraud at a Future Shop in Burlington.
The woman fled store but left false identification behind. Another store employee got her licence plate as she drove away. Police stopped her car nearby.
"These kind of chain store frauds are becoming more widespread," said Hamilton police media officer Sergeant Terri-Lynn Collings yesterday. "Store credit allows fraudsters to get cash advances, return items for hard cash or obtain merchandise that can be later sold."
The woman has been charged with personation with intent to gain advantage, uttering a forged document, possessing a counterfeit mark (driver's licence) and obtaining credit by false pretenses.

yeah this **** happens all the time, better to quit while you're ahead... once you get noticed at one store, they usually e-mail the story/pics to every store and let everyone know about these things... sucks for her but that's the risk you take by doing this ****.

As much as I hate Futureshop/Bestbuy, I hate these criminals much worse. I hope that woman gets everything she deserves.

Looks like she used a bogus driver's license and perhaps other cards to obtain a FS credit card under an assumed name... then the shopping begins.
Some people don't realize (or don't care) they are supporting crime when new electronics are bought off ebay/kijiji/craiglist and the seller has no receipt.

....uttering a forged document, ....
What the heck does this mean???

I wonder if there is any need to enforce any type of 'enabling' legislation to this effect? As times get tougher and tougher, this kind of thing will happen more and more...to ensure that THIS particular avenue doesn't explode, if people are made aware they are not legally allowed to buy anything without a receipt...might stop things? Then again...imagine the nightmare it would create? Not to mention, there's a lot of legitimate reasons some people don't have the receipt, so it's kinda overkill...unless everybody and their mother starts selling 'new in box' electronics lol.

This chick came to my store originally and presented an Alberta license when she applied for a FS card. She was fishy as hell (wore a wierd black wig, hanging around ppl that didn't fit the picture). We booted her out of the store and called the cops , but we missed her.
She tried to hit up the Burlington store and then finally got busted in our Hamilton location because of the fact we shared video of her and her "Friends"

Good job to all the staff involved in this. Its always nice to catch someone once in a while since so many more get away with it.
