I was at futureshop returning some speakers I bought and the person infront of me was apparently returning a item on gift reciept. So thats what it seem, until i saw 4-5 employees at the desk n waiting over 20 minutes in line to return my item I got a little frusterated then overheard that the guy got a gift reciept and was trying to return on the gift reciept, when the original reciept was already refunded.
So he was duplicating a reciept kind of thing and was refunding with same product but he must of got the product some where else? perhaps stole it?
would that be illegal as fraud? I guess he tried to return a item on a reciept that was not issued for it? They just let him go and took his items, but is that legal? Basically he lost his product, reciept and left with nothing!
Cuz Im sure i see it all the time, people trying to return things even tho they never bought it from that place...

What he could have done is walked to the speaker section, taken the set he had a receipt for, and then brought it to the desk asking for a refund. Yes this is fraud.

3K + posts and you don't know threads don't count as posts? Tomorrow throw yourself in front of the short bus instead of getting on.

Yes I'm going to kill myself because I don't check my post count before and after I make a thread.

Perhaps he didn't take into account that the staff could review the security camera footage.
He is probably seen walking into the store empty handed, then is seen in the laptop aisle, and then seen in the refunds line with the case.
Stupid criminals.
They should have taken his ID, as part of the return procedure, then called the police to watch him sweat.

Speaking of gift receipts can they tell what the price was sold at or can they only see the current price or what. For example I buy something today then tomorrow it goes on sale then on day 3 I go in for a refund, will I get all my money back or just the new sale amount? o_O

I'm pretty sure they can see how much it costed at the time of purchase and you only get that much back.

Right, but you will get the full amount back, not the lower sale price or whatever, right?

I'm sure this thing happens all the time. It happened to me when I worked at Grand & Toy way back when. Customer comes in with receipt for product, but no product. Goes to the shelf to get the product, then proceeds to the refund counter. We didn't have security cameras so it was a lot easier to pull off back then. People trying to pull this off in stores with security cameras are just plain stupid.

On all gift receipts (all companies that I am aware of), there are special 'coding' that tells what the purchase price was, on sale or not. That way, the gift-ee, does not know the price that was paid simply by the receipt.

Yes Future Shop can tell how much an item was purchased for on a gift reciept. And yes people try to return stuff from the shelf all the time and yes they get caught in the act all the time. Also yes the act is illegal as it is theft.
