Does anyone know if the Toyota offroad test track will be available at '09 Autoshow in Toronto? It's been my favourite part of the show the last few years, and I can't seem to find info on it this year so I'm assuming its not being offered.

I driven it at vaughn mills last year. It was amazing. Got me hooked on offroading. Too bad I don't have a truck.

I have been on the toyota track at vaughn mills too. If you thought that was fun you should try real offroading.

Thats a toyota truck the size of a house. You were probably driving a pickup truck  Perhaps your not in the market for one?

Anyway, I seriously want an FJ Cruiser (and yes, its made by the same company as the above pictured truck in case your wondering)

I'll agree with you on this. After driving a hatchback from my small town to the show and getting in 08 Tundra, and navigating the streets of Toronto it definitely feels huge.

PS you didn't feel stressed out you felt like king of the road.

I think it was the Sequoia.. the biggest of the SUV's. It was all they had available to drive in that timeslot.. Hahaha.. I felt like I was driving a school bus.

yeah, my brother drove the sequoia, while I drove the tundra. They are both huge vehicles. I think anything that offers a back up camera as optional equipment is pretty big.

Actually even though they are essentially the same vehicle from the b pillar forward the Tundra is bigger even in its smallest configuration :
Tundra:
Wheelbase 126.8"
Length 209.8",
Width 79.9"
Height Regular Cab 4WD: 76.2 in

Sequoia
Wheelbase 122.0 in (3099 mm)
Length 205.1 in (5210 mm)
Width 79.9 in (2029 mm)
Height 74.6 in (1895 mm)

Do you have to sign up to drive? How long does it take?

Yes you have to sign up.
You need a vaild G or G2 Licence
In previous years I went as soon as the show opened to nab the first spot which was 11am I think.

You can usually sign up at the main Toyota booth and then you go to a secondary Toyota booth 15 minutes before your designated time slot.

They then lead you to the underground garage where they have their trucks and SUVs - last year they all appeared to be Loaded SR5 models and they had 2 of each.

You then drive out of the garage, down to a parking lot on the lake and drive around the obstacle course (with someone from the ontario 4x4 club in the passenger seat).

You then drive back. I'd say the whole time in the truck is about 20 - 25 minutes.

This alone makes the autoshow admission worth it.

Yes you need to sign up. When I went, they had 30 minute time slots for either 1)Tacoma 2)Tundra 3)FJ 4)FJ . You just reserve a spot in advance and show back up at the booth around the designated time. When it's your turn, they guide you out to an area where you hop in the car and go out to the track, take a loop around and come back.

GF and I were able to sign up for 2 vehicles back to back. I did Tundra+FJ, GF did Taco+FJ.

If it is even being offered I'd guess it would probably be full by the time the evening rolls around. But who knows - its not much of a hassle to go and ask if it is full.
