While searching for guitar stuff on craigslist I found this post
Disabled Dude Seeks Musical Gear Donation, i.e. Wah pedal... (Parkdale/downtown TO)
http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/msg/1026601126.html
I will give him an old amp.
Maybe others could help out the guy as well.
I too like to play guitar while "medicated".

I am goin to donate, because I feel for this guy. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. It is common knowledge that everything on craigslist is totally legit.

well don't be a sucker.
And asking for donations in your first post is a bit shady and rude.
how about an intro? some of your hobbies, likes and dislikes, pics of your gf.

I'm all about helping people out, but it's a whole different story over the internet, people will tell any lie to get stuff for free, or to take advantage of others.
I would be happy to donate to this guy, but I would be sure to drop it off personally.

I agree. Luckily there's still people like you around. Sorry for hostile "welcome" you got. As you can see, some people here get a kick out of putting other people down. I hope you do follow up on helping that guy out.

Wants effects pedals; not quadriplegic
Wants guitar, drums, synth; not paraplegic
"I'll try my best to make it to the phone on time, but I'm often medicated"; high on drugs.

I got no trouble helping people out...but there are quite a few reasons to think this is less than legit.
a) The guy reiterates his sob story several times in the paragraph
b) You, a brand new poster, reposts it on a forum
c) The guy manages to list several things he wants, drums, synthesizer, guitar
d) The guy doesn't mention anything about trying to compensate the person.
3) Tries to guilt you "I was like you"
Frankly..even if I took this at face value and believed the guy was real (which I do) I wouldn't give him anything...we are talking about a guy who can play the drums, guitar, synthesizer, type out an ad but can't work? or offer ANYTHING in the form of compensation? Not even offer to sing a song or teach me how to use those instruments he wants?
Here is what I think a genuine post would look like:
"Hello, i am an individual on a fixed disability income. I was hoping someone could donate any musical equipment they might have to me, I don't care about the condition and would greatly appreciate it. I have trouble working but could try to compensate with teaching some guitar or just talking. Thanks and sorry for asking"
BAM.

BAM.
I dont have any instruments but I will tell you what I can do to help.. I will send you a cheque, now what I need for you to do is cash the cheque for me, only once the cheque has cleared so you know I am legit, then send me half of the money by western union and use the other half to buy yourself some instruments.
Why you ask? Well obviously because I am Emperor of Canada, and I believe my bank (CIBC) may be stealing from me, so I need you to do this to help me out. Its totally legit.
Thanks

You guys are funny. You might be right.
OK - I can see the guy might be a scammer. You bring him stuff (he wants anything and everything) and then he will sell it so he can buy crack and stay medicated.
Maybe we can RFD-Effect his place?
Send him boxes of junk?
