View Full Version : My observations on OT...

Feb 11th, 2009, 10:26 AM
I have noticed a trend that goes on in Off Topic...

Whenever an OP post a thread topic...

There are usually 3 types of posters who reply imo:

A) Some who seem to think everything is cause and effect for a heated debate. It could be even the most trivial thread like, say someone posting about the local forecast or a link to a video that they find interest in. It still somehow ends up into some kind of low intesity conflict with words. Lol maybe from now on, OP's should include a caption that says *Please... don't turn this thread into a verbal warzone!!" lol

B) Some who feel the need to jump into the bandwagon of antagonizers and
add in their 2 cents of negativity against the OP for no apparent reason. Maybe its just cool to hide behind a more numerous crowd and pick on the smaller voice???
Examples: when random individuals use cliche labels such as "troll" or... even more lame when they for no apparent reason post "THREAD FAIL" <--------- zzzzz

C) Some who positively contribute to the thread by adding their imput by a civilized and honourable manner. Even if they do not agree with the OP, they still do it in a way that is respectful and shows a certain form of rare maturity + humbleness.

*** Just my observations..
Now.. which poster are YOU ?

People are ignorant on this site sometimes, while others can be helpful and respectful. As soon as one person starts the bashing, you have many others who follow suit.

If you dont like the topic, dont post in it.

Noone is wasting your time but yourself. Its off topic, so deal with it.

Hi DesmOnd :)

Cool reply.

How would you suggest one "deal" with it?

BTW Just curious, do you think every single forum in the world is like this??

Or is the toxic atmosphere on OT here a unique and isolated thing??

"Deal" with it involves not reading it or being rude to the poster.

Btw I read that article and it was a good read. Thanks :)

OP, there is a variant of B) which should also be considered for your list:

i) for no apparent reason. Maybe its just cool to hide behind a more numerous crowd and pick on the smaller voice???

ii) because the thread is ridiculous, or more of the same from a thread started by the OP only hours before, or obviously baby steps in the development of a troll, or... etc.

Ahhhh of course...

Who can forget about the whole "label anybody we don't agree with a troll" cliche lol.
Its like a mediocre attempt of a smear campaign.. only done over and over a billion times where, it doesn't really have any effect on anyone anymore haha.

Call this being negative for no reason.. but those pictures are ********. All the Lolcats and the fails and most of the facepalms. There is no need to quadrouple the size of your post just to post a picture of an animal with a stupid caption.

I can do all three but the best way to get a really good thought out response...is to make a really good thought out post...don't make it general or obvious or stupid...write out your thoughts and opinions and then elicit the feedback.

I do believe that most posts get the response that they deserve. ie: Yours suck mostly and contain generalities and no real content or information and are obviously created from a point of nativity (...sp?) or lack of knowledge.

Lol agreed ^

though sometimes the Facepalms are hilarious!! If they are not overdone in size and not used too frequently of course.

I've been debating with myself over the last few weeks whether or not I should write this letter. Obviously, I outvoted myself and wrote it. I concluded I absolutely had to tell you that Mr. Chuck Chorus wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice his most loyal minions if it made it even slightly easier for him to control, manipulate, and harm other people. The nitty-gritty of what I'm about to write is this: If I withheld my feelings on this matter, I'd be no less backwards than Chuck. Consider the following, which I'll address in greater detail later: I respect the English language and believe in the use of words as a means of communication. Wayward, incompetent underachievers like him, however, consider spoken communication as merely a set of noises uttered to excite emotions in tyrannical cheapskates in order to convince them to poke someone's eyes out. We should note, of course, that what I've written about Chuck doesn't prove anything in itself. It's only suggestive but it does make a good point that by brainwashing his factotums with obstructionism, Chuck makes them easy to lead, easy to program, and easy to enslave.

Now, I don't mean for that to sound pessimistic, although in public, Chuck vehemently inveighs against corruption and sin. But when nobody's looking, Chuck never fails to cultivate the purest breed of irresponsibility. In his quest to cripple his enemies politically, economically, socially, morally, and psychologically he has left no destructive scheme unutilized.

Any rational argument must acknowledge this. Chuck's rash demands, naturally, do not. Most of the things Chuck has written would be complimented by being called merely "mind-numbing bureaucratese". The reason is simple: Commercialism is a poxy *****, cloaking herself as social virtue and brotherly love. Chuck may mean well but he has certainly never given evidence of thinking extensively. Or at all, for that matter.

Morally crippled fogeys, the worst kinds of piteous hatemongers I've ever seen, and Chuck's forces are entirely and completely fungible. Disguised in this drollery is an important message: Chuck's ravings are a load of bunk. I use this delightfully pejorative term, "bunk"—an alternative from the same page of my criminal-slang lexicon would serve just as well—because Chuck shouldn't vilify our history, character, values, and traditions. That would be like asking a question at a news conference and, too angry and passionate to wait for the answer, exiting the auditorium before the response. Both of those actions turn back the clock and repeal all the civil rights and anti-discrimination legislation now on the books.

By that, I mean not only in the strictest sense but also the whole spectrum of related meanings. Chuck's victims have been speaking out for years. Unfortunately, their voices have long been silenced by the roar and thunder of Chuck's devotees, who loudly proclaim that nepotism is absolutely essential to the well-being of society. Regardless of those craven proclamations, the truth is that the pen is a powerful tool. Why don't we use that tool to keep our priorities in check? Those of you who thought that Chuck was finally going to leave us alone are in for a big surprise because Chuck recently announced his plans to submerge us in a sea of masochism. Vile scofflaws like him tend to conveniently ignore the key issues of this or any other situation. Get that straight, please. Any other thinking is blame-shoving or responsibility-dodging. Furthermore, Chuck must sense his own irremediable inferiority. That's why he is so desperate to work hand-in-glove with litigious desperados; it's the only way for him to distinguish himself from the herd. It would be a lot nicer, however, if Chuck also realized that if you think that feral renegades aren't ever destructive then you're suffering from very serious nearsightedness. You're focusing too much on what Chuck wants you to see and failing to observe many other things of much greater importance such as that he has shown he's not afraid to be bleeding-heart. Please re-read and memorize that sentence if you still believe that Chuck is the one who will lead us to our great shining future.

The long and short of it is that I think that Chuck should put his own house in order before he tells others what to do. You probably think that too. But Chuck does not think that. Chuck thinks that the majority of disruptive philosophasters are heroes, if not saints. Even when he isn't lying, Chuck's using facts, emphasizing facts, bearing down on facts, sliding off facts, quietly ignoring facts, and, above all, interpreting facts in a way that will enable him to put a clog on all attempts to limit his power.

Was Chuck just trying to be cute when he said that truth is whatever your grievance group says it is? I sure hope so because I would like to comment on his attempt to associate obscurantism with gangsterism. There is no association. Illogical careerism is a disgrace to humanity but it cannot be eliminated by moral lectures or by pious intentions. No, it can be eradicated only if we even the score.

We must do something about the continuing—make that the escalating—effort on Chuck's part to support international crime while purporting to oppose it. To do anything else, and I do mean anything else, is a complete waste of time. I'm sorry if I've gotten a little off track here, but teenagers who want to shock their parents sometimes maintain—with a straight face—that the sky is falling. Fortunately, most parents don't fall for this fraud because they know that Chuck has never disproved anything I've ever written. He does, however, often try to discredit me by means of flagrant misquotations, by attributing to me views that I've never expressed. In the end, Chuck may unwittingly ransack people's homes. I say "unwittingly" because he is apparently unaware that he operates under the influence of a particular ideology—a set of beliefs based on the root metaphor of the transmission of forces. Until you understand this root metaphor you won't be able to grasp why the whole of Chuck's balmy worldview may perhaps be expressed in one simple word. That word is "antinomianism". Let me explain: Chuck's more than crapulous. He's mega-crapulous. In fact, to understand just how crapulous Chuck is, you first need to realize that I shall not argue that his newsgroup postings are an authentic map of his plan to pursue a twofold credo of ageism and scapegoatism. Read them and see for yourself.

Chuck wants to judge people by the color of their skin while ignoring the content of their character. Faugh. He is like a magician who produces a dove in one hand while the other hand is busy trying to pooh-pooh the reams of solid evidence pointing to the existence and operation of a reprehensible, politically incorrect coterie of nativism. When Chuck was first found trying to understate the negative impact of alcoholism, I was scared. I was scared not only for my personal safety; I was scared for the people I love. And now that Chuck is planning to give lunatics control of the asylum, I'm sincerely downright terrified. I know that I'm emotional now, but he is trying to implement a clumsy parody of justice called "Chuck-ism". His mission? To take rights away from individuals whom only he perceives as acrimonious.

If the people generally are relying on false information sown by loathsome, voluble dossers, then correcting that situation becomes a priority for the defense of our nation. Chuck's bedfellows resist seeing that Chuck's surely speaking through his hat when he says that everyone with a different set of beliefs from his is going to get a one-way ticket to Hell. They resist seeing such things because to see them, to examine them, to think about them and draw conclusions from them is to invite all the people who have been harmed by Chuck to continue to express and assert their concerns in a constructive and productive fashion. I didn't want to talk about this. I really didn't. But once people obtain the critical skills that enable them to think and reflect and speculate independently, they'll realize that Chuck alleges that Pyrrhonism forms the core of any utopian society. Naturally, this is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Unfortunately, Chuck's unbalanced agendas neglect to take one important factor into consideration: human nature. Help me respond to Mr. Chuck Chorus's assertions. Join your hands with mine in this, the greatest cause of our time.

The RFD forums (including OT) are extremely tame compared to a lot of other forums out there... The moderators do a job of keeping this place clean. I've seen and participated in much worse forums than this one.

But why???

Why does every single thread have to turn into an all out slugfest where people HAVE to prove the next person wrong just for the sake of it?

What kind of personal satisfaction does one get when he/she out "wins"
another person they have probably never even met offline in the real world??

Does it make their day better before/during/after their horrible hours of routine work? Does it make them feel bigger and badder than they really are by insulting somebody else behind a computer screen? Or perhaps its all about just having a laugh from arguing for the sake of arguing?

I just don't get it

Cause people are a bunch of chicken sh*t who can express themselves on the internet and get away with it. I'm willing to bet that many of the so-called "loud mouths" here aren't the same in the real world. It's a way to be an @ss without anyone knowing who you are.

Debating is fun and amusing when people are idiots. And there are the people who need to feed their egos. And like Merlin said, the anonymity makes it so much easier.

Call this being negative for no reason.. but those pictures are ********. All the Lolcats and the fails and most of the facepalms. There is no need to quadrouple the size of your post just to post a picture of an animal with a stupid caption.

i do believe that most posts get the response that they deserve. Ie: yours suck mostly and contain generalities and no real content or information and are obviously created from a point of nativity (...sp?) or lack of knowledge.

i meant it in the least offensive way possible.

you post topics seeking input from other members....when you receive it, you act puzzled that people are doubting anything you'd say.

then in full passive-aggressive mode, you come and start this thread, criticizing people who respond to what YOU post

.......if you dont want to be called a troll, dont post like a troll! :!:

And no I don't take "offense" to any of your ramblings or whining everytime you take your time out to respond to every single one of my post.

I just find it boring and just a bit annoying sometimes.

Though I have came across a lot worst
haha

keep trying though.

If you want to play this game, by all means go ahead :)

Honestly Mike, it takes two to tango.

I have done my best to avoid your aggression against me and yet you still pop up into every one of my threads to insult me (while claiming to not want to offend me lol)

If you don't like my threads so much, than why don't you de-escalate the situation and go to threads that you enjoy?

Seriously its not that hard Mike.

But like I said, if you want to play this game of yours and continue bothering me from post to post, go ahead.

Just no I am doing my best to not initiate anything with you.

I find this to be especially true on RFD. I like to think that I have a low tolerance for ignorant stupidity, so you can see me being inflammatory at times  What about people making up facts and figures to support their one-sided arguments? What about the kids who need to be spoonfed everything that they need to know? What about the kids who think they know what they're talking about, yet are wrong about everything? What about the closet racists that sit on the fence all the time? What about the no-contribution thread starters (ie: copy & paste a news article verbatim and offer no other input)? What about Kommander_KornFlakes? I get called a troll by that guy, so I think that counts as bonus points for me.

stop posting those stupid pictures !!

add in their 2 cents of negativity against the OP for no apparent reason. Maybe its just cool to hide behind a more numerous crowd and pick on the smaller voice???

It should be noted that these nitwits in your "B" group are also useless in creating interesting threads because they lack the brain power or the audacity to create them. Also I strongly suspect these guys are the same nerds that rate threads 1-star.

That would be Billdozer,Jcoltage,Uncle Steve,Ricoshort (or whatever his name is) and Edgemadge. In a wolf-pack these nitwits are tough and strong, but when you catch them alone in another forum and confront them, then they show their pink colors and wet their diapers.

I literally LOL'd. Gold!!! You can't find this level of comedic genius anywhere else on the net...KK, do you ever stop and wonder that it's not only this "wolf-pac" that makes fun of you, but rather, almost the entire forum (including mods)? Your name, Kommander_KornFlakes/KKF/KK is synonymous with that of a 40-year old virgin, troll, fraudulent engineer, and Hong Kong-loving superstar just to name a few.

You lash out at members because we belittle you, however by now it should be obvious (even to you) that it's really your fault from the stuff you spew out on a daily basis and the insults are completely warranted. But please, don't stop posting on RFD...it wouldn't be the same without the Tiger.

Oh yeah, and reported. ;)
