As you all know, prices always end in $X.99 or something similar. Do you round this up to what it "actually" is? For example, when you see $4.99, do you say $5 or $4.99?

I always say $5.

You should add both, sometimes i use either or, whichever comes to mind first

Depends on whether I'm buying or selling. ;)

Ah, I love psychological pricing. Although I think it doesn't work now that it's used practically everywhere.

For the record, usually yes just so it's clearer.

lol +1

If I'm buying, $5
If I'm selling, $4.99 (i.e., What a great price!!! Less than $5!!!)

I usually would say $5 except for in front of my aunt. Cos she would pick on me and say it's not $5 it's $4.99. F*cking get on my nerves!

There are people who round down. $4.99 = $4.

I always round up.

Psychological pricing is annoying. Annoying, but it works too often for them to stop doing it.

Accuracy counts. It's not $5.

If it's something I want to convince my wife to buy, I would say it's only 4 dollars.

Otherwise, 5 dollars.

Auntie, you are not dumb, you are stupid.

It's basically just saying approximately, rather than rounding up.
If something in the store is $4.99, it's basically $5 (only one cent away).

I say, "it's got to be on sale somewhere else for $3."

how about 9/10ths of a cent like you see at gas stations south of the border. Now that's penny pinching!

I say five just because I don't want to take the time to say four-ninety-nine.

I absolutely hate psychological pricing. Regardless of whether I'm buying or selling, I always round up.

It's become so commonplace these days that I'm quite surprised whenever I see an item priced to the dollar ($5, $25, etc).

I would say the exact so $4.99 is the proper way of saying it. Unlike KFC, toonie Tuesday which they price it at $2.79.

If I'm buying... usually I factor in the taxes quickly in my head. So in this case, I'd think $6 instead of $4.99.

I say five, but then i usually get people saying "so is it 4.99 or 5.99?"

"Okay...here's $2."
"Sir, what about the remaining $2.99?"
"Don't worry about it."
"No, you owe ME $2.99."
"I owe you, you owe me, it's the same thing, don't be so cheap."

slippy

i'd say the actual price of $4.99
whoever you're talking to should be smart enough to realize how much it is and not $4!

Otherwise, 5 dollars.

Hmmm! You need to convince your wife so that you can buy something as little as $5?

For buying purposes, I always round up to deter myself.
For buying purposes, my girlfriend always rounds down to pull me in. It kills the RFDer in me.
