Thanks.
It's time, my eyes are getting crappier by the second.
My last Dr moved and from Midland/Finch and I'm not following..
Markham, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, NYork or Scarborough

HAKIM OPTICAL (http://www.hakimoptical.ca/loc_toronto.html)
The frames I bought in Aug. 2006, are still stronger (and holding together!) better then the ones I got 3 weeks ago at CityOptical.
I've been a customer of Hakim since 1987 and love them. I wish I didn't have to go to City this time :(

He was looking for an optometrist to check his eyes, not a eye glass making/selling place.

Remember, cheap prices will give you cheap frames, and most importantly cheap lenses. Your eyes aren't worth looking through cheap things, is it?
IF you come to Los Angeles I can do your eye exam for free.

I go to the one at Pacific Mall, however he never dilates my eyes.

Stay away from Dr. Joyce Chan (7 & Kennedy). She gave my friend a wrong prescription.

Some Hakim's will do eye exams, and they use high quality products ... however, the lady I just went to in Jan was really good, going as far as to use a drop that super dialited my pupils so I couldn't see straight for an hour *LOL*
She's at Scarborough Town Centre, beside the Lens Crafters under the foodcourt (by management office)

LOL... shows you how you should be wary about who you take your advice from...
Check out this site, they have reviews and you can also search based on your postal code: http://www.ratemds.com/social/?q=node/11
Or typically, most eyeglass places (ie. Hakim) will be associated with an Optometrist and can recommend one... however, this does not guarantee that they are any good.

we need more competent optometrists. I had an interesting discussion with my optometrist who just retired and he said there are only two to three thousand in all of canada and that a quarter will be retiring in the next few years! he graduated from waterloo which he claims is the only english-speaking optometry school in canada which sets really high standards (95%+ on standardized tests) due to a very small class size (60 students?). what gives?? there's a dentist on every corner, but hardly any optometrists. oh, and I absolutely refuse to go to optical stores for an eye exam. that's where I buy my glasses, NOT get an eye exam. I couldn't imagine my own family doctor prescribing me drugs. he/she would just tell me I need a number of drugs in order to get me to buy them.

There's only two optometry programs in Canada, and one is English (Waterloo), while the other is French (Montreal). They've now expanded to 90 students, but that's still meagre (compared to the U.S.) and hence the entrance criteria is ridiculously high relative to other OD programs across North America.
I was at Waterloo recently for an interview to their optometry school. And yeah, they did mention that Waterloo OD students who wrote U.S. board exams had to be taken out of the average statistics because they skewed them badly (the Waterloo students did way better than others, and artifically pulled up the average). Of course, this just might be Waterloo doing some bragging :), but I'm guessing there's some truth to it.
(On a random side note, they mentioned that it's like 80% female there :D.)

Not many Waterloo students write the US board exams. But the US trained optometrists have so much more clinical experience than Waterloo's. Did you get to visit Waterloo's clinic? Come to PCO's clinic and you'll be amazed. I've been on my externships for over a month and Waterloo won't get to go till summer :cheesygri Plus the sites they offer to the students are rather lame I hear. I know they have a good Utah one, but that's about it. But I am paying a lot more in tuition! Which is the only down fall, but totally worth it in hindsight.

Her name is Lorina Yip (?). We went there for eye exams since it's still covered by OHIP
