Anyone just bought a Toyota Matrix lately? I'm planning to buy a Matrix this year and want to check out the current pricing and good deals (if any) in the market right now.
Also does anyone have the invoice price for the vehicle?

Yeap, give me a bit. CCC keeps giving me 404 errors...
Oh and what trim? XR? XRS? AWD?

I have an almost 2 month old '09 XR, base trim, 5-spd. I got $700 off the sticker price, plus the $450 gas card. But more than that, I felt comfortable dealing with the guys there, which is what sealed the deal for me.
Great car so far, I love it. I also love the fact that unlike the older Matrix, the new XR has the same 2.4L engine the XRS does. Do yourself a favour and don't get the base Matrix. By the time you add the B package, you're only about $1k off the base XR which comes standard with AC , power everything, keyless entry & cruise control. The 1.8L engine on the base Matrix will make the car feel very under powered.

I'm interested in XR or AWD with auto transmission, also any good dealer to recommend? Heard a lot of bad things on the one at Woodbine/Steeles

For XR w/ auto you are looking at about $24 500 - $25 500 on the road.
the base AWD is about $1500 more.

You can get $2k off on a Pontiac Vibe, same thing as the Matrix with a little different sheet metal.

You can probably get that $2K back from resale value down the road when Pontiac gets shafted.

If the MSRP is $16,985 fwd based model with auto, would it be safe to say that they have about $1,200 that can be easily reduced from this price?
If I'm buying cash (meaning i may go there with an approved loan from my bank), can i say $15k take it or leave it?
At 15k price, i also want the all weather mats, the cargo liner included. Is this possible?

I dunno..I own a Vibe and the door latch and mounting bracket, brake calipers ,brake booster all have the word "Aisin" on it, the Alternator, starter, radiator, fuses have the word "Denso" on it. May be those are supplier own by GM .. i really don't know..i never heard of those brands before.
The glass is made by Libbey Owens Ford (LOF) instead of PPG in the Matrix..
Both Vibe and matrix ECU are made by Delphi tho..
All Matrix come with heated mirror. and All vibe come with traction , VSC and 115v power adapter for laptop.
But matrix XR have steering wheel mounted radio controls with 6 speakser. vibe base only have 4 speakers
I found the roof rack useful on my vibe I put a twin size mattress and a twin size box spring in the same time just in time for furniture sale and no dent or scratch on the top.
The electrical switches are interchangeable from some of the newer toyota models. Before I only have fix intermittent wipers, then I went to the junkyard and got a wiper stalk from 06-09 Rav 4. The socket and pins are exact match between matrix and rav4 now my wiper have intermittent function.

I agree about the gas savings. The 2.4L engine would consume about 20% more gas, but a bit more peppy. Now gas is cheaper, so you might not notice it if you get the 2.4L, but you might regret it if gas starts to pass the $1 mark.

Thanks for the help! Getting the car next week. 4 hours of negotiation at the dealership takes a lot of patience! The TFS lady was hot btw, but no ECP and rustproofing for me though. ;)

I travel 340km/42 Liters around 12L/100km city winter driving.
I sure hope that's on the 2.4L, because I have a 2.4L 2009 model, and I can get approx 400km on 42L during city driving, and I'm a bit heavy on the pedal at times.

MUCH more peppey. I rented a 1.8L before I bought my 2.4L and there is a BIG difference in power and peppiness. But hey, if you don't need a peppy car and can make do with being a bit underpowered, the 1.8L is great for fuel economy.

I didn't get the ECP plan either. It's just another way for them to suck money out of you. In some cases they make more on the ECP, than on the car. Toyota's are reliable cars. As for rust proofing. Take it to Krown. They're proven to be the best, and it'll only cost you $100/yr for the rust proofing.

Aside from the Pontiac symbol and slight exterior styling differences, the Vibe is a Matrix, Engine, Powertrain, everything. All interior components are Toyota as well. If you drive both you'll see the same thing. This is how it's always been.
Get a Vibe, more for your money and better deals, not to mention better looking!!! :)
Canadian Drive agrees with me as well

I am not getting the number you mention above on my 2.4L... I hope it get better in summer~
The truth is, I won't switch to the 1.8L if I had the chance... The smoothless and power of the 2.4L is worth the extra cost in fuel consumption... that would depend on how much you want to save...
1.8L, you get great fuel economy...
2.4L you get with ~20% extra fuel on top of the 1.8L
So najibs... you state you get great economy with the 2.4L, good! you can even save more on the 1.8L... but really, 10L/100km isn't all that good for a 4 cylinder engine~ My gf civic can get much better numbers!

Yes, the numbers are not too good, but even your gf civic will be consuming more gas in the winter driving. When the summer comes most cars will have aprox. 15% to 20% better feul economy.

Yup, I've owned 3 Vibes in my fleet and do most of my own repairs and maintenance. I've yet to see a part stamped "GM", everything is Toyota or Denso. I sold my first one last summer(an 03) with 550,000km on it, original engine and trans. The new owner is still driving it.
I talked with my salesman a couple weeks back and an 09 with 1.8L, auto, PW,PL, etc is $20,500, and likely better with some negotiation.

The name Aisin and Denso are from Japanese suppliers. Aisin is a long term parts supplier to Toyota. Denso should be equivalent to Nippon Denso, supplier of spark plugs/O2 sensors, etc.

Yes, I'm aware that 9-10km/L isn't considered great fuel mileage, but I was aware of it when I decided to buy the 2.4L over the 1.8. Actually, I get about 9 km/L. To me, as you said, the difference in power and peppiness is well worth it over the 1.8L, which I have driven, and wasn't too fond of.
The beauty of the XR as of '09 is that you get the same engine as the XRS, which wasn't the case in the 2003-2008 Matrix's.

Yea.. temperature in my area is around -25 most time in the winter. It can hit as cold as -41 in one occasion. My roommate's 04 corolla can make it out around 370km/40 Liter..but he is 1.8 mine is 2.4L I think it is still reasonable since my car already have 2470km on the ODO. I usually don't warm up, I like dash and go..as long as i can see whatever in front of my windshield.
I am sure if temperature around 0 degrees my fuel consumption will be inline with your figure.
Speaking of 2.4L , you will loves its mid range punch,it would helps you get cut through traffic much better than 1.8L ..the instant passing power is essential for cutting through traffic 4 30pm on DVP.
Reliability wise, I have talked to my co worker who worked in the dealership they said they had already seen the 2.4 on Highlanders and Camrys going for 340 000km. I guess it is more proven then the new 1.8L. They modified the intake for the 2.4L so they are more throaty in mid range sound almost the same as the Rav4 3.5L V6's tone.
