I have a 2.2L '00 Impreza Sedan with factory car alarm. I never thought it used to work as the car did not come with a remote starter. Today somehow after parking the car I notice the red alarm light on. I closed the door and after playing around i realize the alarm is going off (i believe the previous owner cut the sound) but the doors lock themselves and i cant start the car and dash lights are blinking. I believe the car resets itself into a "pre-arm" state

i found the red button on the side of the wheel and pressed that which seems to reset the alarm or something. I googled a solution of turning the car on and holding the button for 15 secs but didnt work. so now i to start the car i have to press the red button to disable alarm.

anyone know how to fix this or disable the alarm permanetly?

The owners manual may or may not tell you the reset sequence. It probably has to with pressing the lock remote a number of times inserting the key in the ignition , removing it and repeating. You'll never figure it out and will kick yourself when you do. Try to get a service manual (CD) on ebay for about $30. If all you'll ever need for this car is this one piece of information, post on a Sub board such as Yahoo.
