Ok guys, I just recently bought my first car, and have been driving to work, and I am wondering OF WHERE I can use the power available in my car..
Is it allowed to go fast if I was going from Montreal to Toronto? What is the max speed I can drive? where can I legally go fast? I like the high horsepower cars, but I am also consideret of the law so thats why I want to know before I do anything wrong, thanks guys...

Wow, you have a licence and ask a question like this. Please stay off the roads.

No one over the age of 12 is going to ask something like that...
you like high horsepower cars? that has nothing to do with how fast you can go.
tell us what you actually have as your first car? your civic is not a high horsepower car, so don't try to be one.

You're not considerate of any law, so do us all a favour and stay away from the GTA.
100 km/h is the posted limit; traffic flow limits vary.
What a clown.

You can take "lapping days" on the major tracks for less than $100 for a whole day. Make sure to sign up with folks like battle endless performance to take advantage.
You can group with other stores as well who do the same thing.
Like others have said, PLEASE for everybodys sake, do it on the track, if not you're a moron.

Just search the internet for the closest race track to your location and check when they'll have their next "track day" for cars

If you're going from Toronto to Montreal.
you can stop at Mosport or Shannonville :).
They're road-tracks (if you didn't know already).
they'll allow you to drive balls out, and you'll also find out you're not a very good driver when the toyota corolla beats you around the track.
cost is around $100 (which is much cheaper than driving balls out on the road) and you get to do it all day long (or until you crash and require a tow truck).

The first thing you should do is take lessons on a track. Inexperience kills.

After that there are open track days at places like Mosport and Cayuga.

So true :) It's funny seeing an econobox killing a BMW M3 because of driver skill differences.
OP, do it on a track. Teenage boys think they know their limits in a car and it couldn't be further from the truth. There's a reason their insurance rates are high, it's not cheap peeling someone off the pavement.

If you are in Montreal, there is a track at St-Eustache (25 min north west of Montreal) where people do lapping in summer time, but you probably can't test the max speed of your car. You can probably hit 140km if your car's acceleration is fast, then you have to break and turn on curves....
For 1/4 mile. Go to Napierville dragway. South of Montreal, about 25min drive.

If you crash your car on the track most insurance companies will not cover any damage (they used to years ago but have stopped due to claims on $$$ cars).

Generally it is cheaper doing that, then someone who almost died and is disabled for the rest of their life... not that either one is pleasant or cheap heh

on the 407, you can drive:
130-140 km/h and probably not get pulled over.
I see people going 160km/h every day.
I usually go 130-140km/h and never get pulled over, and always see people flying past me

surprised that op didn't know what the speed limit is on the 401 across the country. As all racers are able to restrain themselves from driving as hooligans on public roads. Leave the risky driving on the track.
around GTA, there's mosport, another track in hamilton (called toronto motorsport??) and one at north, for drag racing, forgot what it's called.
take your car on the track, find out how good a driver and how good your car is. I'll tell you it's addictive. Remember, going all out on your car takes a toll on your car. The brakes and tires are expensive.
If you got the money, sure go for it.
My advice is buy yourself a gokart. You'll find out fast that it's not all about top speed. It's the thrill of cornering fast, clipping the apex at the proper place.
Then pretty soon, you think you're fast enough that you want to compete against somebody, quit your day job and turn pro.
:D guess one thing at a time eh.

why not get a motorcycle? You get the same thrill everytime you round a corner or go through the on/off-ramps. Best part is you're more likely to kill yourself than someone else.

I'd say go to a race track.
I once ... just once from Mississauga going to Montreal on the 401 during the summer of 2007 did 175km/h in my 1996 Toyota Corolla.
I was young and stupid. I was following an Mercedes SL500, I think it was a 2000ish Model. I didn't realize I was at 175km/h until I looked down and he was still way ahead of me when I was at 175 km/h mark.

Haha, funny.
Is that the corolla's top speed? trying to race a Merc with a corolla, funny.
didn't know corolla can you to 175. You were probably slip streaming behind the merc and when he left you in the dust, no more acceleration.
Merc's no matter if its an SL, have ridiculous amount of torque, once it approaches a corner that's when the weight will show, it's achilles hell. Kinda like ol school american muscle car, amazing driving straight, puts your back to the chair, unable to grab that $20 bill on the end of the dash/windshield, but is afraid at the turns.

Not sure how you wouldn't have noticed it considering you'd have to be flooring the gas pedal and the car would probably be shaking like crazy.

Before I got the Corolla ... parents passing it down to me, I was driving a 1993 Tercel and it shakes while driving ~110 - 120km/h so I am use to the shaky part of the car. The tercel was my uncle's previous car which he didn't take care of it so the engine gave up about 6 months in to me owning the car.

The top speed on the speed meter is 180km/h. I was trying to follow him at high speed because on Highways i try to follow people who drive fast so the person ahead of me would me the one who would be caught speeding ... well that's my logic ... at the end I always got 110 - 120km/h max on the Major highways.

The other way to look at it is that they miss the first person because they didn't react fast enough to start chasing, but they catch you. Moral of the story is, don't speed unnecessarily!

I've seen a chain of at least 5 police cruisers that have pulled people over on the highway, with a few more cruisers waiting on the on ramp. That day must have been big $$$ for them.
