Hi,

I am looking for a place in downtown Toronto next year, preferably a 1 bedroom + Den for around $1500 per month, with room in the budget up to $1800. I work in Mississauga near Square One, and I know its a commute but I think it will be worth it if my apartment is near restaurants/movie theatre/bars. I'm 22 so a younger neighbourhood would be great. Any advice for areas of the city I should be looking at, or if you know any buildings in specific it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah.. find a place to buy and get some equity if you have the budget to afford 1500-1800 a month in rent.

Heck, 200,000 mortgage right now is about $1000 bucks a month if you qualify for decent rates. 5 year fixed rates are about 4.39-4.49% right now and even cheaper if you go variable although probably not the best option since everything is prime +.

In the budget that you have of 1500 a month you could borrow about 300,000 which may get you a two bedroom apartment which you could rent a room out and bring your mortgage down even more.

With your budget you have lots of options...

do not live near Parkside Village unless you are OK with construction-mania and live around a dog barking park, lol

but anyway, since you work near Sq-1 you really should buy a condo there, I mean Toronto is just a Go bus ride away.

I would move to somewhere closer to work as well. Work is somewhere you HAVE to go 5 days a week, go and back. After hours chilling, those are optional....and for 1500$ you can rent some very nice high-end condo at Square One already. SQ1 has theatres and nice restuarant as well (ex. Ruth Chris)

I wish I can spare 1500-1800$ on my rent, lol

If you are set on Downtown T.O for a good reason, there is a development on Jarvis and bloor: http://www.mansionsonjarvis.com/ They have gone alot of price reduction, something to think about....

Thanks for all of the advice. The budget is based on my gf and I splitting it which is why I doubt I'll be buying a condo anytime soon. I've never had the opportunity to live downtown and I figure my first years out of school will be better spent there before I have to move close to work, which I assume I will do after hating the commute.
