Yes 8gb pretty much useless. If you're friend can't come up with a technical reason why he actually needs 8gb he probably doesn't.

Well, I doubt 8GB is necessary.
Um...where are some of the prices coming from?
You could get a P5Q Pro for $2 more at directcanada, free ground shipping if over $300. Or pricematch @ NCIX and have everything shipped together.
ASUS P5Q Pro $153.99 - have NCIX pricematch.
http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD7774&vpn=P5Q%20Pro&manufacture=ASUS
OCZ StealthXStream 600W - $89.99 but a $20 rebate...likely to come considering it's OCZ.
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=23934
Have NCIX price match the Q6600.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 $235
http://www.infonec.com/site/main.php?module=detail&id=349999
Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB Sata 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive Oem $122.98
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=35676&promoid=1058
And the video card...I don't think that's a Core 216....with shipping, it still might be cheaper at newegg?
XFX GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 GX260NADFF Video Card -$293
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150329&nm_mc=OTC-sho6b0tCA&cm_mmc=OTC-sho6b0tCA-_-Video+Cards-_-XFX-_-14150329
But if you want ncix, http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=30963&promoid=1058. The SSC verison is even cheaper.

AMD/ATI has done well since the 4000 series was launched. Consider the 4870. It beats the GTX 260 but not the GTX 260 Core 216 version.

1. C2D E8400 is a better CPU for gaming.
2. You don't want Green drive as your only drive in your system. It is slow.
