Ok, I weigh 65kg and 1.73m.
I'm working out regularly and try to eat healthy.
Also, I'm currently consuming Protein powder with carbohydrate.
And yes, I'm eating as much as I can every meal and having 4 meals a day already.

I'm trying to bulk up. So I'm curious about weight gaining product.

It sounds very promising.

Although its about 250g per serving, it's got tons of protein, carbohydrate and calories.

So my question is, anyone tried this kind of weight gainer? How effective is it?

It's hard to find any reviews on these weight gainers.

I can see one advantage to have protein and carbohydrate separately. Then, I can always control the ratio of carbohydrate and protein. But, like I said, I'm trying to bulk up. If weight gainer is more effective I'm willing to try it.

Pretty crappy gainer IMO, full of sugar, no quality carbs in it.

You probably won't find them in Canada, but search bb.com for a low sugar gainer, will still be loaded with complex carbs and the calories you require, without the extreme amounts of sugar.

Buy yourself a good quality isolate powder ,some olive oil, bunch of bananas and some egg whites and go wild.Consume a shake three times a day and you will gain.

You need calories.

Eat lots of mixed nuts or almonds, use olive oil on everything you can stand using it with. Put cheese on everything.

Make your own shakes with chocolate protein powder, a banana, peanut butter and some dextrose or maltodextrin. It will taste better and it will be cheaper than pre-made weight gainer powder.

It is also a good idea to stick within some parameters and remember nuts and cheese contain alot of fat.Not that fat is a bad thing just be aware of how much you are adding to your diet.

Cheese should be eaten in moderation, but olive oil and almonds are all good fats and if you need extra calories there is no worry about eating a lot. Both will actually lower your cholesterol and almonds also provide fibre. I also mix some psyllium husk into my shakes to make sure I'm pooping well.

While almonds are good for you they do not conatin "all" good fats. They do contain 7% saturated fat.Not alot and the pro's outweigh the cons but just be aware of that fact.

Thanks for the input guys!

I will stick with my protein+carbohydrate shake for now.
I will try to grind almond or nuts with the shake though.

Will the oat do the same trick as nuts?
Sometimes i mix shake with steelcut oats for extra calories, but its kind of hard to drink at once.

gross, no. I didn't mean put them in the shake

I just meant to have them around to snack on. They're high calorie and easy to carry.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to build up 1 lbs of muscle? It takes time and doing 10 lbs of muscle in two weeks is simply impossible. Therefore it is most likely a fat build up as you are "bulking up" with those weight gainers. Don't get me wrong, you are still building muscle but not that quickly.

Hey Credible KR.

I was in the same boat as you once. I was 6'2" and weighed 72kg(160 lbs). Now I'm 93kg(205lbs).

Here is a link to a post i made in a similar thread:

My post is at the bottom.

Basically, as crazy as it may sound to you, you are simply not eating enough. Well, maybe you are, but your daily caloric intake is less than you daily burn rate.

I've personally used the UN musclejuice and it is not bad for the price. The only problem is that with the UN you gain a lot of fat at the same time. So your bodyfat% goes up a lot, but once you are done using it, your increase in muscle mass will start burning that off.

Thanks, I realize I am not eating enough. No excess calories, therefore no gain.
For right now, I'm doing best I can with all the school stuff. That's why I'm interested in weight gainer to boost my weight with that extra calories.

So, I guess you had the weight gainer then stop taking it for a while? How gradually did you see the change in weight?

Here is my average experience:

With a 10 pound tub of weight gainer combined with a pre-planned diet and working out I would gain about 10 pounds(nice 1:1 ratio). Of that 10 pounds that I gained, approx 2-3 pounds was muscle and 7-8 pounds of fat
(not great, but hey it's gainer, not a miracle product). I arrived at those numbers by measuring my body fat% before and after.

Once I stopped taking gainer, I would burn off about 5-6 pounds of fat and gain another pound of muscle. (about 1 month or so)

The final net gain after a full cycle would be around a 5 pound gain, 3.5 to 4 pounds of muscle and 1-1.5 pounds of fat.

So, as you can see its not a cheap process and it does require time. Of course you could always just keep taking gainer non-stop till u reach your weight goal, but i don't recommend that since you are gaining fat at a much faster rate than muscle. Not even considering the health effects, you will have stretched skin when u are toning down since fat takes up more space than muscle.

It's a tough uphill battle for us ectomorphs, but on the bright side any weight that you will put on will look like nice lean muscle. Since you are in school I'm assuming you are less than 18. Hopefully ur metabolism will start revving down and youll be on wieght gain cruise control by then :cheesygri
