View Full Version : Will this work? Thinkpad X200 and a 1920 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080 external monitor?

If I purchase a Thinkpad X200 without the ultra base, can the VGA port actually project well enough onto a 23" or 24" external monitor?

I had a bad experience when I tried to hook up my company notebook (HP nc6400) to a Samsung 24" --> there was interference whenever the power supply was plugged in. Even buying those thick ferrite core vga cords didn't work. I don't want to be stuck not being able to use an external monitor but I would not want to spend more for an ultra base unless necessary. Besides the display port, I don't have much use for it.

Lenovo Canada says it will work but the csr could be biased. She said she looked my question up but I want to know your experiences or thoughts on this first. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I take it that this is a gut feel and not from experience? :) I know it should work, the question is whether there will be interference or what not on the external display. I don't need a perfect display, just one where the external display will not cause any eye strain or fatigue.

I have my HP laptop outputting 1920x1080 on my external monitor through VGA and there are no problems.

Thanks guys. Now to wait for the next Thinkpad X200 promotion. The January code expired at midnight. :(
