So I got a 2wire modem (white) thats for bell and I want to use it with Acanac. I put all the info like username, password etc and everyhting seems fine, but when I try and surf the net I just get the Welcome to bell page and it asks me for the bell username and password? Anyway around this...

Thanks

The 2Wire modems are terrible, it is too bad Bell switched to these units for the Wireless router / Modem combo.

The SpeedStreams were not perfect, but they were better than the 2Wire units.

Why are the speedsteam's better? I have one of those, maybe I should stick with it instead of playing around with the 2wire

You can add a Dlink / netgear router to 2wire, reset 2wire, and plug your acnac info in your dlink router to make 2wire act in bridge mode.

I didn't want to go out and buy a router, since I got the 2wire for free I figured why not give it a try!

That's what I was thinking. Not familiar with the 2wire, but there are firmwares for the speedstream I have that revert it back to factory configuration.

In terms of what? I installed several hundred of them, and never encountered eny real issues.

OP, IIRC, you need to flash the 2700 firmware to unlock the modem.

Well, for a start, some or all of the 2wire modems come with a huge security hole allowing hackers to reconfigure your modem just by getting you to visit their web page (e.g. setting up a DNS redirect to send accesses for www.yourbank.com to www.hackers-r-us.ru).

Affected:

2Wire 1701HG 3.7.1, 3.17.5, 5.29.51
2Wire 1800HW 3.7.1, 3.17.5, 5.29.51
2Wire 2071 Gateway 3.7.1, 3.17.5, 5.29.51

Bell is currently distributing the 2701HD 2Wire, which does not appear to be affected. Users of affected models should contact Bell for a replacement.
