We've been dark solid wood furniture... I think our taste might be too narrow - our whole house will be filled with dark wood :) bedroom, kitchen, living room... new kitchen cabinets will probably be the same :)

We've been getting light brown and beige dressings though (beddings, throws, pillows, etc)

If it is wood re-lated, dark is the way to go. All wood in my house (that I chose) is dark; from dining table, to bedroom furniture, to flooring to desks etc.

Trend experts are saying the more ornate/rich look is now coming back (as it tends to do during times of economic recession). There is no one thing that is always 'in' or to everyone's tastes. Better to know who you are probably selling to and what they are going to be looking for. There is always a market for classic and sometimes that means ornate, depends on the styling and quality.

If you want to know what is in in Europe, you have to look to their sources, magazines, etc. Chances are what you see there will hit N. America within 2 years usually but nothing is ever for certain.

We like the simple, heavy wood look of Mission (a la Harvest House). We tend to get our pieces custom built to match our room/other furniture.

Depends entirely on the house. Mid Century Modern for a Mid Century Modern house, Arts and Crafts for an Arts and Crafts house, and Archie Bunker for most of the houses around here
