Just bought this at the brick. It seems like an unadvertised rate. Online states 1799.00. There were 38 in the Mississauga warehouse as of Saturday

Without going into too many details, I would recommend that you never buy anything at the Brick, even if it is the lowest price. I ordered a fridge online from them about three weeks ago and didn't notice it was damaged until after the delivery men left. After bringing me another damaged fridge and making me take three days off work for them to pick up the first one, I have not been able to get rid of the damaged fridge or get my credit card refunded. I must have spoken to at least 7 different people at the Brick, all of whom do absolutely nothing and take no responsibility.
Once I get a chance I will be calling MasterCard and the Better Business Bureau, but I can promise you that I will NEVER shop at the Brick again and would recommend that you don't either. Service is a bit part of the shopping experience and they do not offer any!

one thing I will say about BB. They open all TV over 42" for you to inspect prior to leaving the store. Company policy

Bought 2 big TVs @ BB and neither time they opened the boxes....you might have been conned if they'd done that...you know, going through the motion by opening an open-box...

Oh yeah, I have this TV @ $1350 3 months ago...nice TV but not worth the price over the 768p. Get the PN50A450 instead if you can still find one @ $900.

Wasn't it the 50PNA400 for ~900?

Interesting...this is basically the tv I'm waiting for a price drop and then I'm buying based on all the positive reviews. Can I ask you what you don't like about it?

I've bought 4 tvs at BB in the past 2 years(2 for myself, 2 for gifts) and all 4 they opened in store to do a damage check

Nice TV...don't get me wrong...It's just that with the 1360x768 50" Samsung A450 going for under $900, I feel like an idiot paying $1350:cheesygri
I have 1080p source and the difference is very very slight...not worth 50% more; not worth $450 more IMHO.

Hardly an idiot for buying a 50" 1080p plasma for $1350 (I did the same) it's easy after 3 months to say - Wow I shoulda bought that TV instead. I had the 450 before but at the time BB was $50 more to get the 550. I made the change and love the TV. The picture is about the same but the cabinet is better looking then the 450.
Mind you if i was buying it right now I'd be looking for the 450 as I'm betting it's round the $1K mark if not lower on sales. So $1499 is a big difference for design changes.

Intriguing. Do you both watch mostly HD cable/satellite? Blu-ray/HDDVD? DVDs?

That's exactly what I mean...back then the A450 was $1299 so the choice was easy to pick the A550 for $50 more :cheesygri
The choice is also easy now...A450 for $900 whenever available.

This is a summary from AVS comparing the 550 vs the 450 (This is for discussion and not my opionion as I have not seen the 450, I ended up buying the 650):
Besides the fact that the 550's 1080p, people have been saying it has better processesing and Color, and going by some of the poster pics, i definitly agree....Honestly though, i'd upgrade your 360 just to get HDMI since it's digital and is obviously the best connection you can get PQ wise.
Also, definitly go for the 550, since the 360 'supports' 1080p on the Dashboard and you'll see 720p games(which most of them are) in full detail the way they were ment to be....Compare to on the 450, since it's a fixed '1365x768' resolution(like all 720p displays), so there will be detail loss.
SO ,as it stands, with the 550 >
~You get full 1080p
~A 'Native' resolution unlike those fixed 720p Displays...So that means no Scaling, and perfect detail
~You'll see 360/PS3 games in perfect 720p or 1080p the way they were intended to be
~Full resolution for Bluray
~Better processing than the 450
~And of course superior Color.

anyone considering the 450 should also be aware that there are some owners who are experiencing a buzz from the speaker area at certain low frequencies (i've heard it first hand as well). There's a thread on it @ avs.

The Brick has horrible customer service. I'd rather buy somewhere else, even if it cost more.

I'd agree with that. I watch mostly HD Starchoice but have been watching Bluray's as well as regular DVD's on a PS3. I love the picture and after moving two Tv's into the basement and one out. I'm not looking to do that again any time soon.
I'm happy with what I paid for the 550 (even though the 450 has been much lower). I can't wait to see Band of Brothers on Bluray!

I'm invited to "VIP night" at the brick superstore in Mississauga this Friday Jan 30th, 9am to 10pm (not sure why they call it "Night") ;)
Has anyone ever been to one, and if so, will I be able to get a deal on this (or any other) TV?
Let me know

the 1499 is available to everyone. It just isn't advertised. The saleman went to his computer and opened their Brick database. It seemed to show prices from MANY 550's and 1499 was the cheapest so they match that price and say that is their selling price.

I've seen it lower than $1499. We bought the 52" LCD version for $1388 in early Nov and the 50" plasma was the same price. So I'm going to assume that the $1499 may be the new price for these tv's.

ahhh, you people are so hard on the Brick. yes, I agree, their cs sucks, but caveat emptor? Take a goooood look at whatever arrives at your house, and just work with the assumption that it is final sale always and factor that into your price.

so much for not going into too many details! I agree though...even though this isn't the point of the thread, I would have to have an UNBELIEVABLE sale before I'd buy from them. And that would have to also be an non price-matchable sale as well.

I dunno where you get these, only point #2 has a little merit. All the rest are worse than FS/BB sales pitch.
If anyone thinks the A550 is better than the A450 in every way...think again.
The A550 is noticeably dimmer and the optimal setting (average) is nearly maxing out. Not that it would matter in a basement setup but the picture is less vivid so to speak (especially in torch modes:lol:)
136x X 768 is an odd ball resolution but as it turns out, it is fine and good enough for anything 50" or less.
