View Full Version : [CLOSED] GROUP BUY- AMC Movie Tickets [CLOSED]
comet
Jan 23rd, 2009, 09:49 PM
Alot of good movies coming out this year towards summer so I thought I would start a group buy. This has been done in the past a couple of times so hopefully it goes well. The tickets average out to 7.50$ (estimated).
Detailed calculations will be done later on pending on interest. So right now I just would like to see who is interested. Tickets will be sold in bundles of 5 or 10 or multiples of 5. I know in the past they have been bundles of 10 but this gives people more flexibility as to how many they want.
I am in for 10 and my friend is also in for 10. We need to at least reach 50.
Please post here in this thread if your interested and the quantity.
Lastly, just a reminder that there is no profit to be made here.
Thanks for looking.
Edit: Feb 9, 09
Okay Guys here are the Calculations for the ticket costs:
We have already reached over 100 tickets so based upon that
100 at $7.00/ticket = $700
Shipping Cost: 18$ next day delivery (you cannot chose regular mail)
Total: $718 / 100 = $7.18 per ticket
Although you must add postage to this amount which I believe is .70c?

If I were you, I suggest you don't buy tickets for TF2, and instead purchase them at an IMAX location.
As The Dark Knight did last year being the first ever feature film to be shot in IMAX, and being re-released now in theatres in IMAX, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will have 3 different action scenes shot and presented in IMAX.
Just a heads up.

That was my point.
I suggest you don't group buy them at AMC, and rather go to a Cineplex and group buy tickets, who owns all of the IMAX theatres that show feature films.

First of all, Cineplex tickets are NOT valid for IMAX. Secondly, this is for people who prefer AMC due to the close proximity or they just like going there, so if you don't want to buy them then don't no one is forcing you.

Anyhow, yeah anyone (as the OP) can have this offer anytime they choose IF they are willing to go through the ordering process etc.

Yes anyone can go through this process. I just wanted to say in regards to the price will actually depend on the number of people are interested. The price could go lower than $7.50 if there are alot of people could go as low as 7.00$.

Wow I made a tiny suggestion and you are blowing it out of proportion.
You basically corrected yourself and are putting words in my mouth.
I basically said if you wanted to watch TF2 in IMAX it would be worth it and should not be included in your group buy.
You could go to:
A) Square One IMAX
B) Scotiabank Place IMAX
C) Colossus IMAX
and if you choose to view the full experience that the disastrous Michael Bay intends, you might want to take a glance at the option.
And cineplex tickets are valid for IMAX if they have "IMAX" printed on them, which is a service they offer at the 3 locations I listed above in the GTA.

Never seen Cineplex tickets that are valid for Imax. They did away with those when Cineplex bought Famous Players.

I'd be down for about 30 tix since i'll be watching TF2 and other big movies on IMAx, but only at $7 or so got 50 tix in last groupbuy & I think they worked out to be $7.25.
Isn't it $7 per ticket & 18 for shipping, so that would make em $7.18 if we got 100.

Lol, trolls are funny.
I can see why it's less funny to the guy trying to organize this though. He's trying to do a perfectly reasonable thing here and it seems like you are trying to convince people not to join the group buy for some unknown reason(I know you like IMAX, this isn't the IMAX appreciation thread though).
The tickets don't expire, and if you watch movies at AMC often enough, then this seems like a good idea.

I made a slight suggestion in not purchasing tickets to the sole film that would be shown in IMAX.
I never said don't purchase tickets or don't invest in a group buy, I've done it before.
I'm a troll alright. Sniff.
And to the OP:
Since you are clearly a simpleton who makes things difficult;
Standard Cineplex tickets are not valid for IMAX. Standard price of a ticket would be anywhere from $5 (FIVE DOLLARS) to $11 (ELEVEN DOLLARS).
An IMAX ticket at CINEPLEX not AMC would RUN you ABOUT $14.95 (FOURTEEN DOLLARS AND NINETY FIVE CENTS) minimum.

From being part of 2 or 3 successful AMC groupbuys, people do flake out at times & the currect recesssion/depression expect those #'s to increase. There are valid reasons for flakiness, but it messes up the roation & distribution, I'd say up that # 125 to 140 or consider purchasing additional tix yourself and selling them to people who want tix @ the last minute. You wnat to make sure your well over the 100 ticket threshold.
I'd even be willing to add an extra 5 tix to my order bringing it to 35 i'll ask around to see if anyone I know wants some.
Hopefully the orders are in by month end & we get tix in March, no movies I want to see being released in Feb + its a bad month for film releases.

Yes this is still on, we are waiting because we need to reach above 100 (right now we're exactly at 100), there might be people who want to back out so lets reach a reasonable number around 125. We could end up reaching March which is not too far away, unless people want the tickets earlier?

Comet don't mean to steal your thunder, but if we got 120 tix at $7 then wouldn't it be? I apologize if my calcs are are off I was rounding to 2 dec places...
$120
X 7
________
$840
+ $18 = $858 / 120 = $7.15 then we all add $0.70 for postage
So using this math it works out to be:
5 tix = $35.75 + $0.70 = $36.45
10 tix = $71.50 + $0.70 = $72.20
20 tix = $143 + $0.70 = $143.70
30 tix = $214.50 + $0.70 = $215.20
Also for people looking to pay via Paypal, if you pay via PayPal's Masspay, it would only cost $1.00 to send as opposed to Paypal's 3-5% or you could also use EMT for $1.50 plus bank fees..
I'l be paying via PP Masspay.

Hey, thats correct however we cannot buy 120 Tickets, it has to be in multiples of 50. so 50, 100, 150 etc. The reason I calculated for 100 is that because some people might back out, since it happens. We can make calculations for 150 when or if we reach that point. But we cannot buy 120 tickets even if no one backs out we are still 30 tickets short. Let me know if that makes sense?
Edit: If we do reach 150 tickets then
150 X $7 = $1050 + $18shipping = $1068
1 Ticket = $7.12 X 10 tickets = $71.20 plus 0.70c postage. (which is a dollar cheaper than your calculations for 120 tickets). So yes its better if we reach that however we need people to join first.

I have a suggestion to the group (one that I already PM'ed Comet about).
instead of dividing the shipping costs per ticket. how do you guys feel about dividing it by the number of people in the group? that way we all pay the same exact shipping cost? So, we have 10 people, the shipping per person would be $1.80 regardless of how many tickets you bought.

Yea that makes sense, however this is only advantageous to people who are ordering a high amount of tickets. For example, a person ordering 5 tickets per my calculations:
5 X $7.18 = $35.90 plus 0.7cents postage = 36.60
Compare to adding 1.80$ as you mentioned:
5 X $7.00 = $35.00 plus 1.80$ plus 0.7cents = $37.50
I dont really care about how this works out. But lets hear from the other group membersÉ
P.S. how do i turn off French Canadian keyboard settingsÉ lol

well, technically, if you order 10, then you're paying the same. And yes, if you order more, then your cost per ticket is less. I see it kinda like a bulk discount.
Personally, It seems the most fair, and the simplest way of doing it. we're all ordering the tickets to have them shipped here. so a person who buys 10 shouldn't have to pay a larger share of the shipping costs then the person who orders 5 for instance. everyone share's an equal fixed cost. just like how it's $0.70 to send us our tickets. it's not a cost per ticket.
Also, to change your keyboard language settings, press your left Shift + CTRL button. or there's a little button in your task bar that says FR. Click that, and change it back to English.

Okay guys, we have 115 tickets. Some people might not be interested so we might go down to 100 tickets. I think it would be easier just to divide shipping charges by the number of people ordering. This is good idea in theory but makes minimal difference, if you add the $18 to the cost of tix and divide by 100, that makes it $7.18 per ticket. If you do it the other way 10 tix still costs $71.80.
Didn't read the thread before I pm'd you
