[Updated with current movie list as of April 15th]
Here's a great freebie for those of you on Shaw Cable, a digital cable box, and subscribe to Movie Central...
Shaw Movie Central on Demand now has Movie Central movies for FREE! (I assume these are all movies that are on Movie Central this month, but On Demand lets you watch them at your leisure).
Normally, this service costs $6 per month, but it seems that some of the movies are now free!
If you press "Shaw on Demand" on your remote control, and scroll down to "Movie Central" in the menu, and then select "Movies", you will see that all of the prices are $0.00 for all of the movies in that category.
Currently, these are some of the movies on there for free [Last update: April 15th, 2009]:
28 Weeks Later
88 Minutes
American Gangster
Atonement
Baby Mama
Control
Eagle vs. Shark
Harry Potter - Order of the Phoenix
Iron Man
Joy Division
Leatherheads
Made of Honor
Margot at the Wedding
Mr. Brooks
Obama Inaugural Celebration
Sex and the City
Showstoppers
Smokin' Aces
Sweeney Todd
The Bourne Ultimatum
The Clique
The Heartbreak Kid
The Love Guru
There Will be Blood
Things We Lost in the Fire
Untraceable
Walk Hard - The Dewey Cox Story
There are also HBO series and other shows available for free, including a large number of Karaoke song videos!

Also note that these are not ALL movies that are supposed to be available to Movies on Demand subscribers.
The page here:
http://www.moviecentral.ca/aboutmc/OnDemand/2009/Jan_MConDemand.pdf
describes what is supposed to be available through Movie Central on Demand, but many of those described there do not appear for me.
I am beginning to think this is some sort of temporary free trial? Or, has this been available all along, and I just never noticed many of the movies were free before???

where did you find these?? i have shaw and can't seem to find them listed (they used to have a "free" listing but not anymore)

That's the thing, they aren't in the free listings...
If you press 'B' to go to the video on demand, and select 'Movie Central', then select 'Movies' that's where they are appearing for me.

I don't seem to have a "Movie Central" option anywhere in the VOD menus, although I vaguely remember having one when I had the free trial of the premium channels. Do you have Movie Central (the channel)? That's probably why you have the option to watch these for free.

Not a freebie because you have to have a certain cable package and a box both of which are not free to get these free previews. I find it so dumb that the cable companies do these "free" previews and not everyone can get them.

Yes I do, but normally the Movie Central video on demand service costs $6 per month.

Damn, why do we always hear about this stuff when it's mid-way through the month! Thanks OP.

I think it's like that every month.
In fact, looks like less stuff there to me than usual, but it's been a while since I checked.

I am surprised that there is as much in there as there is... Actual regular movies in there for free like Good Shepherd, Hairspray, and several others for free.

i love repost nazi's ....
*shakes head

Actually, i'm not a repost nazi... I just so happen to know I posted about this before!
The original post was not time limited, just an observation.
I really don't care if there are two threads describing the same thing... just that some comments people have made in the previous thread may be interesting to people in this thread... considering they ARE the same thing! There was no expiry date originally, so this really is the EXACT same thing.
It's entirely possible they renamed the Movie Central stuff to the "Free Zone" but it is the same thing as before.

Lately I've found SOD to actually be faster, also if you look in HD there are some freebies there too. I think I had to guess and check a bit in HD. I just selected to order it and if it was free I'd get it and if it wasn't I'd cancel.

What's SOD?

SOD = Shaw On Demand
"What's the difference between Shaw Video On Demand and Movie Central On Demand?
Movie Central On Demand uses the same advanced technology as Shaw Video On Demand, but is a monthly subscription service. This means that with Movie Central On Demand you do not pay each time you view a title, but pay one flat monthly fee of $5.99* to watch a selection of Movie Central titles as often as you wish."
I don't subscribe to Movie Central On Demand, so the first deal doesn't apply to me.

That's the funny thing with this original post... I'm not subscribed to Movie Central on Demand, yet I got a subset of the monthly movie selection for free.
I guess they've renamed it??

Check the Movie Central area on the menu... you might be surprised to see something there... or not, if they've been moved.

Get Free Movies on Shaw Video On Demand!
We’re calling it Free Zone for a reason. It’s where you’ll find a great selection of Shaw Video On Demand movies for free, courtesy of Movie Central. The deal is on for a limited time. So don’t wait.
Use your remote to get to the VOD main menu and click Free Zone. There, you’ll see titles like Hairspray, The Last Mimzy, Nanny Diaries, Evan Almighty, Definitely, Maybe and many more. Click your choice and see it without any cost at all.
If you haven’t used Shaw’s improved VOD, this is the perfect reason to give it a try.
VOD delivers the movies you want faster and easier than a trip to the theatre. Rent a movie through your remote and control each movie like a DVD for up to 24 hours. You can watch all the new releases, with many available in HD. Best of all? No trips to return late movies to a store.
It’s simple:
1. Press the Shaw Video On Demand button on your Shaw remote control.
2. Click Free Zone
3. Use the Page Up/Down buttons to take you through the free titles.
4. Choose what you want to watch, and press the OK button. You will see the title and price confirmation.
5. Select YES to order. Enjoy.

My list of free movies and kids programs disappeared! Shaw left some old songs and some poor shaw programs! WTF??!
I am asking myself why I am paying $40 dollars each month for poor boring basic cable channels that worth big zero while those greedy in Shaw carelessly removed the free list!
I hope they just moved it to another place! Anyone is experiencing the same!

During that deal, I felt the basic poor cable + free zone deserves the $40!

The original post says you need to click on "Movie Central" then "Movies" to get to the movie list.
It is still there for me (in Alberta), and the movie list is the same as it was last updated.
As for the kids shows, I am not sure about that because I didn't look for those.
To clarify: It is NOT listed in the so-called "Free Zone", so make sure you check the Movie Central area.

I never subscribed to Movie Central channel and all the free movies were under the free zone! Yesterday, I tried to complete my free movie and it is gone! I went through channels trying to find anything useful but you know basic channels are useless! Anyway, I'll call to ask them if they confirmed it is no longer there, I'll save my $40!

Oh, I see!
I guess the Free Zone was a limited time offer.
The Movie Central thingy has been going since last year, or maybe longer.

Movies
UFC On Demand
TV
Adult
HD
My Picks
My Orders
Exit
I tried the Movies and TV menu's but can't find anything in there either.

I have "Movie Central" on the main menu, and when you select that, it shows a list of several things, one of which is movies.
You probably have to subscribe to Movie Central to get access to this menu.
