Can someone please explain to me why 8800GTs are so pricey?

I'm sorry but I've been out of the comp hardware loop for years and am just looking to purchase a new video card, possibly an SLI setup. But I'm not in the mood to spend 500 bucks!

Why isnt a 8800GT far cheaper than a 9800GT @ $150?
