I did this last year at the branch in the Royal Bank Plaza in Downtown T.O.
The whole process took about 20 minutes. The quote they provided was higher than my existing insurer, so I obviously wasn't going to switch. As we walked out of the guy's office he said let me get you your gift card. He walked over to the reception desk and then immediately turned around and walked back to me saying that they were all out... I frowned and asked him when they would get more cards. He said he didn't know.
Luckily for me, I actually work in the area, so I told him I'd check back everyday when I walked by on my way to work. He said OK. A couple of days later I walked by and the rep saw me and flagged me down to give me my card. I am guessing that if I didn't work in the area and wasn't walking by everyday I would have been SOL.

Wow, I can't believe the 2x quotes you guys are getting. I did this in Calgary over the summer and ended up switching. They were cheaper on my auto and the same on my condo.
Also, they gave me $50 in GC's
$25 for the quote, then after I had switched i noticed they had an offer for $25 for switching. So i inquired about that and yup, a few weeks later they'd mailed me another $25 card.
Go RBC!! AMA wouldn't even match them (I asked just for fun)

Jan 27th, 2009, 06:58 AM
My quotes for auto and home were cheaper.
I asked for a $25 Esso gift card to seal the deal.
If you have a Starbucks Visa card they will give you $40 in Starbucks dollars.
If you pay your premiums on the card.
Yum.

My quote took 10 mins over the telephone yesterday and it was $300 more than what I am paying. I confirmed with the telephone rep that I would receive the Esso Gift card and he told me that it's only the first 20,000 quotes, so I may not receive the card...
Maybe a waste of time, after RFD effect but worth a shot I guess.

I'm guessing these rebates are handled by a separate company (probably out in N.B.) that will send out the cards at a later time. I only recently started doing a few gift card promotions but they all seem to come from NB and from the same company too, I think.

Took almost 20min to complete. The rep initially refused my quote request because she said I did not get this offer in the mail. Had to wait for her supervisor to clear up. Then I told her i only drive 5k per year because the office is just a few blocks away. She said that is not accurate and put me down for 15k. Not very pleased with rbc reps.

I'm surprised most of you got quoted higher with RBC. When I was looking for insurance a year or two ago RBC gave me the cheapest rate for what I wanted. Of course that might of been affected because I switch from my parents policy to my own policy.
Would you guys mind sharing which company you guys are dealing with?

For us, RBC's quote was almost same as my PC but I do prefer the disappearing deductible with PC. With RBC you only get $50 off each year you don't have a claim vs. 20% with PC. I just hate that with PC you have to pay the 3% monthly service fee:mad:, so I always pay in full to avoid the fee  RBC has no monthly fee.

Got mine today as well. Have you guys seen those sweaters/hoodies with CANADA emblazoned across the front lately ? I'd like to get my hands on one of those, using this gift card. I have not seen them in stores lately and I believe only the bigger *On-the-Run* joints carry those items.

Just purchased gas. First time at the pumps. Put in the GC, then my Esso Extra card and voila, $25 shows up.
For those who don't have a car, you're lucky you don't have to use it on gas.

My parents were pretty amazed they would give away a gift just for getting a quote. I should have told them to call at the time to get a quote too...not sure why I forgot to do that.

Got my gift card yesterday...and received my new insurance documents today!
I switched to RBC from ING because they were $126/year cheaper on my home insurance and $54/year cheaper on my auto insurance. And when I move next month, the quote they've provided me on my new house is $440/year cheaper than what ING was quoting me; we had a $4000 home claim with ING last year and I guess they increased my home premiums to get that money back. Then when September 2009 comes I will have been licenced for 15 years which will bump me up into RBC's 7-star rating category and save me an additional $73/year.
My total savings with RBC: $693/year + $25 Esso gift card :cheesygri

I am going to hang on tight to the gift card and wait until the fall to see if I can get my hands on one of those CANADA sweaters. I believe this card is valid for 1 year so plenty of time left.
If you don't want to spend it on gas, i have seen those neck pillows for travelling at some Esso locations as well as movies...you can get 1 for $6.99 so this card is good for about 4 movies for your collection.
I wouldn't waste this on junk food or drinks, there is a high markup for those items at gas stations, compared to your grocery shop.

Actually your phone number is already released to numerous institutions and individuals which you do not want to release your phone number and other informaiton to, and for free. That is for 25$.

I used my work number. You can easily give them a fake number. They have your address for mailing the gift card, but I can easily throw out junk mail.

I just called TD & the promotion is valid :!:
They asked if I have received a "flyer", which I said of course :D
So start calling TD now for a FREE $25 Petro-Canada Gift Card
EDIT: Apparently this promo is only for people who work for certain companies, not for everyone.
But a new promo for regular customers from TD offers a FREE Multitool. They were not able to confirm what tool it is.
Plus they enter your name for a chance to win a trip.
You have to call 1-866-454-8910 & promo ends May 22/09

Apparently it took 4 people for them to tell me I am NOT eligible because apparently my company is an RBC Insurance Group Client.
What a load, I am now asking to speak with a rep regarding the lack of customer service as this should have been pointed out when I spoke with the first rep, then 2nd, 3rd...
They don't even have a record of the 2nd person I spoke with as this person did not make any notes in my file.
They asked how I knew Sharon Henry and said I did not now her, which I don't, the lady kept asking me where I got her name from and that she could not deal with me if I was a friend or family so I ended up mentioning that I saw her name online and that she was a good person to speak with.
I heard a little chuckle, not sure if she believed me lol, but its the truth!
Sooo yea, chances are after waiting almost 4 months and speaking with 4 reps, that I won't get it. GRR.
I don't even get any benefits with them right now as I dont have insurance. Their quote was a couple hundred more than what I pay right now.
and end rant.

Jun 9th, 2009, 07:27 PM

I must have been asked for it during my initial quote to see if I qualified for any other discounts.. which I now ask.. if a discount was applied how did 3 other people miss this and not realize this is why I was not eligible. ugh.
