Straight forward question.

what sport do you like better, boxing or mixed martial arts (mma)

i like boxing because personally i dont enjoy watching 2 men sitting on top of each other doing 69 position.

I do enjoy both but I am a bigger MMA fan.

Your comment about MMA just shows your ignorance of it. Not everyone can appreiate grappling, wrestling, BJJ, etc... but your comment just makes it sound like you do not know what you are talking about.

Boxing is so one dimensional. As much as Rogan annoys me sometimes, he was bang when calling boxing the sport of punching and MMA the sport of fighting.

In MMA there are so many things that a fighter has to watch for in addition to everything a boxer has to worry about. There's lots of creativity and surprise, and it continually evolves with moves and counter moves. It's also great how submissions are another way to take the outcome out of the judges/refs hands.

But, of course, different strokes...

I do not mind Rogan so much. I really dislike Goldberg though. Rogan said something that made me respect him a lot more as a mma fan though when he said he is a fan of MMA, not just the UFC.

I like boxing and MMA but they are both different and cater to different people.

not trying to bash MMA but i thought humans had evolved from the times of beating each other up for entertainment. i know there's a lot of technique and what not involved, but the end point is still to knock the other guy out cold. terrible.

Well then I suspect you do not like any contract sports... correct?

incorrect. i love hockey, american football, football. but the point of those sports isn't to inflict the most pain on someone else and knock them out cold.

I like boxing more...........because it is the sweet science....

But I do watch MMA (UFC mostly) and appreciate the skills that are required.

MMA is pretty darn exciting as well but I love boxing's history, tradition and the action.

I like boxing better (as my username suggests) but I am not a MMA hater.

2 completely different sports that always get compared to each other, but in reality the only similarity they have is that they are both combat sports.

I can't stand Joe Rogan either. He's the Max Kellerman of MMA.

Like boxing but I think MMA is more exciting with the unpredictability, anyone can win or lose at a given time.

it can be argued that hockey and football players get concussions and injuries more often than mma fighters and these guys only fight 3 or 4 times per year tops... just sayin'

it can be argued that hockey and football players get concussions and injuries more often than mma fighters and these guys only fight 3 or 4 times per year tops... just sayin'I'm pretty sure that's an exagerration. Hockey/Football players don't get concussions at nearly the same rate as MMA fighters.

However, for flexwong to think that there aren't players in those sports whose primary role is to inflict pain is quite naive. I don't see what so barbaric about it any way if two people agree to fight. Lots of people enjoy pain if it benefits others (in MMA's case, through entertainment) and themselves (through purses). Hell, some would even call a PhD or med school masochistic.

As long as permanent injuries are minimized, humanity doesn't suffer in any way, and like all sports it encourages dedication and work ethic.

seriously how can you guys like ufc

i mean they bring in brock lesnar for example to fight a guy like randy couture on his 2nd or 3rd fight??
is there no such thing as a ranking system in mma or what?
rookie fighter gets to fight a legend.

also ufc has to make a reality show to create their own superstars.

you cant do that in boxing. boxing champions earned their way to the top by grinding it out through the ranks not by winning some bullsh1t reality show.

also ufc has guys like bruce buffer who sounds like a idiot..."its TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME" ....LOL

Brock got the title shot so early because he has mass appeal with fans and also the skills to back it up. that fact is proven by him winning the match. he is the rare case of someone getting a title shot so early.

the UFC reality show is mainly to get peoples names out...and even if they win the show all they get is a contract + salary, most likely they have to fight in the undercard for a while first. it takes them quite a while to fight through the ranks to get a title shot. Forrest Griffin won the first UFC reality show back in 2005 and he didnt get a title shot and won till mid last year. and Rashad Evans winning the 2nd year of the reality show didnt get a title shot till 1 month ago and he had accumulate a 13-0-1 record first...

UFC has Bruce Buffer..well..Boxing has Michael Buffer..

Rogan might sound annoying at times..but you cant doubt his knowledge and passion for MMA...his commentary is at least better than his old standup. Goldberg on the other hand is a tool.

Yea, it has nothing to do with the promoters.

Many of the fighters on the UFC 'reality show' have long and impressive fight records before being on the show. Many fighters are also very accomplished fighters in other organizations/aspects of MMA. When you compile such an extensive list of accomplished and already very well trained fighters from all over the world, and make them fight each other, over, and over again, I think that would constitute as "grinding it out".

seriously how can you guys like ufcFirst of all, just because we like MMA over boxing doesn't mean we agree with everything that the UFC does.

you cant do that in boxing. boxing champions earned their way to the top by grinding it out through the ranks not by winning some bullsh1t reality show.Want to give an example? Who won "a bullsh1t reality show" and reached the top without grinding it out?

MMA is still relatively a young sport and still in its infancy compared to boxing. Every sport has its valleys and peaks and boxing is currently on the down low but hopefully can rise again in the future. I still think the Dana White philosophy of UFC=MMA has brainwashed newer fans/bandwagoners way of thinking when it should be UFC is a part of the sport MMA and not MMA itself. Times are changing and boxing isn't the only popular combat sport anymore. Maybe instead of the whole which is better debate, we should just enjoy that we get to see more people duking it out on a more regular basis. The boxing aspect of MMA is more important now then ever and more fighters are training harder at it. Seeing Freddie Roach helping Arlovski with is boxing and now seeing De La Hoya/Golden Boy promotions standing with Donald Trump in the ring alongside Emperor Fedor at the end of the latest Affliction PPV, times are really changing.

Agreed. You'll never see Bruce doing things outside the UFC like Michael does outside of boxing. Michael has done a ton of stuff for TV and movies. Plus Lets get ready to rumble is WAY better then Its Time.

well i do not have a problem with tennis fans in general, but i wouldnt click on a thread named " Which sport do you like better, tennis or ping pong..." just to say something stupid like "not trying to bash tennis but i thought humans had evolved from the times of hitting a ball to each other. i know there's a lot of technique and what not involved, but the end point is still to hit the ball to each other. gay."

so the only problem i dislike tennis b/c a lot of their fans are elitist who think their sport is better than everyone else's.

MMA is more entertaining IMO

Boxing is alright...but when fights enter the 7th or 8th rounds, it can be a snoozefest, b/c most boxers are dead tired by then
